Once upon a time in the bustling city of Kigali, Rwanda, there lived a woman named Amina. Amina had five children: three boys named Patrick, Emmanuel, and Moses, and two girls named Alice and Grace. From their early years, it was evident that Amina had a special fondness for Alice and Emmanuel. They were her favorites, and she showered them with affection and attention, while the others often felt neglected.

As the children grew older, they began to pursue their own paths. Emmanuel excelled in his studies and secured a lucrative job in a reputable company in Kigali. Alice, on the other hand, started a successful small business selling traditional Rwandan crafts and garments. Moses also found his niche in the business world, running a popular restaurant in the city. Patrick and Grace, however, struggled to find stable employment and financial security.

When Emmanuel and Alice started earning money, Amina's favoritism became even more apparent. She would host lavish family dinners, praising Emmanuel and Alice for their success and overlooking the achievements of the others. She seemed to favor whoever was bringing in money, and for a time, she included Moses in her circle of affection due to his thriving restaurant.

Years passed, and all five children eventually found some financial stability. Amina, sensing the change in fortunes, began treating all her children with the same affection, hoping to bask in the success they all had achieved. The family enjoyed a few years of relative harmony and prosperity.

However, fortunes changed once again. Patrick and Grace lost their jobs due to the economic downturn. With no other options, they returned to their mother’s home. Overwhelmed with depression and frustration, they turned to alcohol as a means of escape. This led to frequent conflicts at home, disrupting the once peaceful household.

Amina, embarrassed and frustrated by the behavior of Patrick and Grace, began to speak ill of them to anyone who would listen. She lamented their failures and drunkenness, warning neighbors and potential employers alike about how "bad" her children were. Her harsh words only deepened the siblings' despair.

Unable to bear the tension any longer, Amina eventually chased Patrick and Grace out of the house. She declared that they were no longer welcome and that they were never to return. The community, having heard Amina's constant disparagement, was hesitant to offer Patrick and Grace any support or employment.

Homeless and without support, Patrick and Grace faced a harsh reality. The streets of Kigali became their new home, and their struggle for survival was a daily battle. Despite their dire circumstances, the bond between them grew stronger. They found solace in each other's company, determined to turn their lives around.

Eventually, with the help of a local NGO dedicated to helping the homeless and those battling addiction, Patrick and Grace began to rebuild their lives. They found support and understanding from strangers who saw beyond Amina's harsh words. Slowly but surely, they overcame their addiction, found stable jobs, and started to regain their footing.

Meanwhile, Amina, left to reflect on her actions, was plagued with guilt and regret. She realized too late the consequences of her favoritism and harsh judgments. The remaining children, though successful, were distanced by her actions. They rarely visited, and the house that once echoed with laughter and warmth now felt cold and empty.

In the end, Amina learned a hard lesson about love and family. The love she withheld from her children could not be bought with money or success. It was the unconditional love and support they needed all along that would have made the difference. And though she yearned for reconciliation, she knew that the scars of the past would take time to heal.

Patrick and Grace, with their newfound strength, continued to rebuild their lives, proving that no matter how far one falls, there is always hope for redemption and a new beginning.
