Come gather round, and I'll tell you a tale

Of the history of April Fools' Day without fail

But in 1582, Pope Gregory made a change

The new year began on January first

And so they were laughed at, it was quite harsh

Others say it began in France, oh la la

Where fish were placed on people's backs, ha ha

It was called "Poisson d'Avril," or April Fish

And those who fell for it were quite the dish

In Scotland, it's called "Huntigowk Day"

Where pranks are played in a humorous way

And if you're fooled, you're called a "gowk"

But it's all in good fun, no need to balk

In America, it's a day of tomfoolery

Of fake news, and fake pregnancies, truly

Of fake spiders, and fake parking tickets

But it's all done with a wink and a lick

So on this April Fools' Day, let us all remember
