Learn how to make a strict schedule for your baby. To grow up healthy and harmonious, for a child, restful sleep is 60% important, and food is 40% important. That is why the program we are used to is paramount.

Adriana Bachmann is a newborn specialist in the United States of America. It helps families build the right program for their babies from the first months of life.

In families where there are problems with the sleep of the little ones, the specialist considers that the main problem is always the way the parents behave with their babies.

Here are the 10 mistakes parents make in their relationship with their little ones, which can lead to discomfort for babies.

Failure to impose a routine that will help the little one to rest. Babies need a fixed schedule to follow every day. Don't wake him up earlier than usual and follow the mealtimes!

Are you startled by any movement of the baby? Do not wake him to any noise he makes during sleep. It is very possible to dream, not need food. Do not disturb his sleep because it is extremely important in his development.

Let him learn to calm himself. Avoid holding him in your arms all the time and rocking him at every cry. They need to learn to calm down on their own. Otherwise, they will become addicted to parental intervention and fall asleep in the future only in this way. I'm not talking about the fact that crying can become a blackmail tool.

After dinner, you play, rock him, kiss him, but then put him to sleep and have the patience to sleep alone. The sooner you get used to it, the easier it will be. This does not mean that you are not paying attention to his real needs. If his stomach hurts or he needs something, of course, you will take him in your arms. If we are sure that he is okay and that he stops crying only when we take him in our arms, it means that he needs attention. If he cries even after we take him in his arms, then it means that he has a need, a pain.

How to put your baby to sleep?

Don't sleep with your baby. It is wrong to get your child used to sleep with you in bed or even in the room. Do not do this even in the first months of life. You risk having a child in the future who will never be able to sleep alone. I'm not talking about the fact that it can be dangerous to fall asleep with him in bed.

Follow your baby's meal and sleep schedule. The easiest way to get a child to adjust to a sleep schedule is to correlate the sleep schedule with the meal schedule. Babies get tired as they are fed, which means it's much easier for them to fall asleep after eating.

Consistency is key when trying to instill a habit. The problem is that many parents do not stick to the meal schedule or the meals do not last long enough, so the baby will wake up hungry again. Make sure your baby has eaten enough before you go to sleep. A normal meal should last between one and a half to two hours, with breaks to take the air out of your belly.

Other mistakes parents make when it comes to putting their baby to sleep

Do not breastfeed. This breastfeeding position is wrong! It will cause colic and gastroesophageal reflux.

The baby must be wrapped. Babies need to be wrapped, especially in the upper body. The wrapping reassures them.

Stop rocking him and don't make background noises for him to fall asleep. The rocking, the hissing, the toys above the bed, and the background noise shake him even harder and do not give him a restful sleep. I'm not talking about the fact that some parents turn on the vacuum cleaner believing that the noise calms the little ones.

She's not crying just because she's hungry. Most often, whenever the baby cries, the mothers put it on the breast to calm it down. However, if the baby wakes up, it is necessary to identify the source of the discomfort that caused him to wake up. We don't just have to try to calm him down for 5–10 minutes.

Before you rush to the solution, check the problem. It could be a diaper, clothes, bedding, room temperature. Check for any discomfort, and you'll see that once the problem is resolved, the baby will be able to sleep again. Once you've identified the cause, find a way to avoid it in the future.

A baby's lost night's sleep will not be recovered the next day. If you think that when you fall asleep later it means that you will wake up later the next day, you are wrong. He will probably wake up just as early, but due to fatigue, he will not be as active. It is easier to make a sleep program for a child than to try to make him tired so that he can sleep better.
