Forms of Education : Although there can be many types of education, but education has been divided into three parts from the point of view of purpose, method and form of receiving and imparting education.

(1) Formal Education

(2) Informal Education

(3) Non Formal Education

(1) Formal Education

Formal education refers to the education which is given deliberately. The most important place for imparting formal education is the school. The school itself provides education in the mother-language, science, mathematics, geography, history etc. subjects which are formal. There is education. To provide formal education, agencies are established regularly and curriculum is made.

Well-planned programs are made to complete the curriculum. On the basis of which the child takes education. In the end, the students are evaluated. Formal education is also provided through private tutoring.

Formal education is that which is imparted through pre-planning, planning and conceptual measures.

Objectives, curricula, teaching methods are also organized for formal education.

Formal education is provided systematically.

Features of formal education

The following are the characteristics of formal education:

1.This education is provided by the schools.

2. There is a need for a well-planned system in formal education.

3.Formal education is unnatural, artificial and complex.

4. Formal education is very laborious and requires hard work.

5. In this type of education, the specified course is completed in a fixed time.

6. This education continues throughout life.

7. Formal education is physical.

8. The objectives of formal education are ensured.

(2) Informal Education-

In schools, children are able to acquire knowledge of only a few subjects. Reading, writing or acquiring knowledge is not education. Education is wide and comprehensive.

We take education from our good and bad experiences and from the experience of the sense organs. Education is the sum of all kinds of experiences. Which man acquires during his life time.

The education that is received through formal means is called 'formal education'. And the education which is obtained through non-formal means is called non-formal education.

Characterization of informal education- Characterization of informal education-

1. No system is required for non-formal education.

2. Informal education is natural, simple and natural.

3. Schools are not required to get non-formal education.

4. Informal education is received from the surrounding environment, family, society and neighborhood etc.

5. Informal education depends on the original successors of the human being and his interest.

6. This education lasts from birth to death, it is a life-long process.

3.Non Formal Education-

In view of the shortcomings of formal and non-formal education, a new form of education has been developed, which was neither bound, systematic, artificial and impractical like formal education nor was it natural, free, and natural like non-formal education. This new form of education was a mixed form of both the education which is known as 'Non formal Education'.

In non-formal education, there is freedom as well as bondage, there is a definite program of education in it. But it remains free from the restrictions of place, environment, class, age etc.

Nature of Education-

On the basis of definitions of education, the nature of education is as follows-

1. Social process of education-

Education is a social process. Man being a social animal is an integral part of society. Change in human behavior and education both take place in the form of social process. According to the social needs, there is a change in the thoughts and behavior of the student. Social development of students is possible only through education.

2. Dynamic process of education -

According to the time, changes also keep on changing in education. There are changes in the aim of education, method of teaching and also in the curriculum. Knowledge and education are passed on from one generation to the next. We can progress and grow only due to the dynamics of education. This is the speed of education.

3.Education bipolar process

Two poles of education are considered (1) teacher (2) learner. Both are necessary in the process of education. The teacher influences and the learner is influenced by him.

4. Continuous Process education-

Education is a continuous process. Man continues to receive education from his birth till his death. Human beings keep on learning something or the other, both formally and informally.

5. Process of Education Development

Human's innate behavior is like that of an animal. Education develops these innate powers. Along with the development of human, education develops the culture and civilization of the society.

6. Education All-round development process-

The function of education is not only to develop certain abilities of the child. Rather, all aspects of the child (cognitive, emotional, active) have to be developed.
