The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints migrated to the Great Salt Lake Valley after experiencing displacement multiple times. Its origins trace back to New York, where Joseph Smith received a divine vision. Throughout their journey, the church faced persecution in different states until they eventually settled in the Great Salt Lake Valley, which was then a part of Mexico. Mormons often face scrutiny for their beliefs, and recently, BYU students have become targets on TikTok, where they are portrayed in a silly or peculiar manner. Mormonism places significant demands on its members, but it also aids in their personal growth and development. The political landscape and population growth have brought about changes in Salt Lake City.

Some perceive these political shifts as a potential threat to the multi-generational Mormons. As a result, there has been an urban flight in downtown Salt Lake City, leading to non-Mormons now residing in pioneer homes. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints donate 10% of their income as tithe. The church utilizes these funds for various purposes such as building renovations, universities, and investments. While the church has a welfare system in place, it does not offer financial assistance for healthcare. Members of the LDS faith engage in proselytizing to share their blessings and spread the teachings of the true church. Missionary work is rooted in the doctrinal teachings of spreading the gospel. Believers in the LDS faith hold the belief that even if an individual does not join the church in this life, they may still find the gospel in the next life. The individual speaking expresses a preference for freedom from organized religion, enjoying the opportunity to engage with diverse religious groups and learn from them. The speaker values the belief in having a prophet who can receive divine revelations. It is important to understand the usage of the terms 'Mormons' and 'LDS'. The term 'Mormons' originated from the Book of Mormon and was initially used by those who opposed the church. Some individuals prefer using the term 'LDS' instead of 'Mormons'.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is considered to be the restored version of Christ's original church. The current prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, emphasizes that members of the church are indeed Christians. Using the full name of the church underscores the belief that they are the literal church of Jesus Christ. LDS members have a unique practice of not wearing crosses, as they choose to focus on commemorating the resurrection of Christ instead. While some Christians may criticize the LDS church for this, it is important to note that they still believe in the significance of the cross and celebrate the resurrection of Christ. The symbol that represents the LDS church is that of the risen Lord, depicted with outstretched hands and nail prints on his feet and hands, inviting people to come unto him. The distinctive culture of the Mormon community in Provo is well-known. TikTok interviews often pose perplexing questions to BYU students regarding their beliefs. The Provo Temple holds great significance for Mormons as it serves as a sacred place for participating in rituals. BYU offers top-notch education at a fraction of the usual cost. The tuition fees at BYU are subsidized by tithing, making it more affordable compared to other private Christian colleges. Provo, the city where BYU is situated, is renowned for its tranquil and secure environment. Missionaries within the Mormon community are highly regarded for their spiritual calling.

They can be easily recognized and respected in their missionary attire. It is believed that God's protection keeps missionaries safe, which is why instances of missionaries being killed in Sao Paulo, Brazil are rare. Missionaries acquire valuable social and communication skills during their service. The Missionary Training Center provides a unique setting for learning and personal growth. Missionaries learn to overcome rejection and develop extroverted qualities. The Missionary Training Center (MTC) is a massive facility where missionaries reside and receive comprehensive training. There are approximately 72,000 missionaries worldwide at any given time. English-speaking missionaries typically receive training at the MTC in the USA, while other countries have their training centers. Couples attending BYU often reside in BYU married housing, with BYU-owned housing known as Y Mount specifically provided for married couples. While it is less common, some students have children at a young age while pursuing their college education.

Missionary work is an integral part of the Mormon community, and proficiency in foreign languages can greatly aid in this work. While going on a mission is strongly encouraged for males, it is optional for females, with a recent rise in the number of female missionaries. Mormon missionaries do not serve in Muslim countries, and there are restrictions on where some sisters can be sent due to past incidents. Mormon missionaries are permitted to perform service work in Russia but are not allowed to teach. The Mormon church makes significant investments in BYU campuses to maintain its reputation as an academic institution. BYU is home to its creamery and is renowned for its delicious ice cream, which is a cherished aspect of its culture. Members have the freedom to leave the Mormon church without being trapped, distinguishing it from cults where departure often leads to persecution and family isolation. However, those who decide to remain within the church but violate religious regulations may face meetings with leaders and potential loss of membership. In Provo, the heart of the Mormon community, there are coffee shops and a market that cater to non-members. Swig, a popular establishment in Provo, offers a wide selection of fancy sodas as an alternative to coffee for Mormons.

Although the Mormon church can alter its stance on coffee in the future, such a change is unlikely. BYU now permits the consumption of caffeinated beverages, resulting in the increased popularity of soft drinks like those found at Swig. Previously, sodas at BYU were exclusively caffeine-free. Swig provides a diverse range of soda flavors with various mix-ins, accommodating different preferences. As a sacred aspect of their faith, Latter-day Saints wear temple garments. These garments, worn beneath clothing, possess distinctive features such as a scoop neck. They serve as a symbol of religious devotion and are not subject to policing but are recognized by fellow members. Temple garments serve as a constant reminder of the commitment that adult members of the church have made to follow Jesus Christ. These garments are designed in a style similar to an undershirt and boxers. It is common for most adult members of the church to wear temple garments at all times. The Salt Lake temple stands as a reflection of the pioneer era and its architecture. The pioneers made significant sacrifices to construct both the pioneer houses and the temple. Mormons hold a strong dedication to their ancestors and strive to improve the world around them.

However, non-Mormons may not fully comprehend the customs and practices of the Church, which can lead to misconceptions. Mormons often face criticism and discomfort from those who disagree with their beliefs. They prioritize the guidance of their prophet over the President of the United States, viewing the President more as an administrative figure and policy implementer. The Christus statue holds great importance as a symbol for Mormons, signifying their faith in being the followers of Jesus Christ.
