These structures work together to create a functional body that allows us to move, breathe, and carry out all of the processes necessary for life.

Bones provide the foundation for the body and support our movement. The skeletal system is made up of 206 bones and provides a frame for the muscles to attach to and move against. This allows us to walk, run, jump, and perform many other movements.

Muscles are responsible for movement, posture, and the production of heat. They attach to bones and create force to produce movement. The muscles in our body can be divided into three types: skeletal, smooth, and cardiac. Skeletal muscles are under voluntary control, smooth muscles are found in organs and are not under voluntary control, and cardiac muscles are found in the heart and help to regulate its rhythm.

Tissues are made up of similar cells that perform a specific function. There are four main types of tissue in the human body: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous. Epithelial tissue lines the surface of organs and helps to protect the body, connective tissue holds the body together, muscle tissue allows movement, and nervous tissue helps to control and coordinate the body.
