The CAT is India's most popular MBA admission exam, providing a pathway to the country's major B-Schools, including the IIMs and over 1,200 others. Every year, over two lakh people take the CAT. Because the CAT is a gateway exam to the most prestigious MBA programs in India, it is extremely difficult and requires dedicated and long-term preparation.

The most frequently asked question among MBA candidates about the CAT exam is, "When should I begin CAT preparation?" The following pertinent questions are frequently asked by aspirants:

  • “When is the ideal time to start preparing for the CAT?”
  • “Is it too early to begin CAT preparation in February?”
  • “Is it acceptable to begin CAT preparation in June?”

When is the best time to begin?

The best time to start studying for the CAT exam with the help of personal tutors for MBA exam is determined by each candidate's talents, abilities, and the amount of time he or she has available on a daily basis. The majority of students, however, begin relatively early. The tentative CAT exam date is November 27, and if you want to take the exam, you should start studying for it in March or April. However, if you start preparing now, you will have a good chance of passing. You only need to make four-month plans from August to November.

DAY ONE OR DAY ONE: YOU DECIDE

The CAT Exam is, without a doubt, only an aptitude test. CAT aspirants should keep in mind, however, that only about 1% of all CAT applicants make it to the cream layer of 99 and above percentile.

Preparation Time Required based on academic records

A CAT aspirant with a standard academic record may need more than a year to prepare, while a student with a better-than-expected academic record may need as little as six to eight months. And 3-4 months for a candidate with an outstanding academic record. Because CAT is held in November or December, it is best to begin your preparation at least a year before the exam.

Competition

Applications are at an all-time high, and competition is becoming increasingly fierce. Only 20 people in the CAT 2016 received perfect 100 percentiles. To earn a spot in an IIM of their choice, every general category student must have a percentile of 98 or higher. You must still devote 10-12 months to CAT preparation to achieve such a high score.

Working Professionals: Optimal Preparation Time

Meetings, work pressure, and family obligations sap your professional inspiration. Contributing small amounts of time each day and planning your strategy ahead of time is the best option.

Students

A student's life is also difficult because they must balance entry-level positions/project work, planning preparations taking the help of best online teachers for CAT preparation, and tests. While preparing for the CAT exam, I attended classes, college events, and completed assignments. It gives you almost no time to plan out your CAT layout.

Given the CAT pattern, any student or working professional must recognize the importance of repeating all of the principles while juggling a busy schedule. As a result, they must begin their preparations at least 365 days in advance in order to study 65 topics of the CAT curriculum in an average of 5 days per topic, covering basic learning as well as tricks, technique, and a lot of practice.

If you are a serious CAT or MBA candidate, you should begin your preparation as soon as possible.
