Entry #3: Butterfingers
The above picture is a great way to start. My child proudly holding up what would be a simple drawing for the average nine year old. "Look mommy! I made a phone!" She is totally unaware of the large pen mark on her face. Most nine year olds could efficiently hold a pen to a piece of paper and probably would have done that multiple times with many colors, creating a rainbow of delight. But we are talking about a child with a brain injury which affects her ability to use her hands.

Careers Advice
Second year. I've gained a respectable mark for my first year of study (that doesn't count towards my actual degree) and now things are getting serious. I have to think about graduation and how I'm going to land my perfect job. Here's a quick snapshot of a lecture from which I soon zoned out.

Call
I checked my watch—5:33 PM. Class ran thirty minutes over, and I was already late for call. I rushed up to the residents’ quarters where I found the surgical intern I would be working with for the night. He didn’t seem to notice that I was late, or perhaps more accurately, he didn’t care. “Go get changed into scrubs,” he told me, “and go ahead and scrub in. We’ll probably have a case soon.”

High School: Junior Year
Chapter One Have you ever had that sensation where you just didn’t want to get out of bed? Well, I feel that every morning I wake up. I don’t know if I’m just lazy or if I have some medical condition that won’t allow my body to actually wake up early in the morning. I do the same routine every morning: shut my alarm clock off, roll the covers above my head, and lay there until the replacement mom walks in and tells me breakfast is ready. I’m freaking 17 years old and my “replacement” mom still cooks me breakfast.

A College Student
Today I want to share my college education experience. One that is ongoing, but one that I feel people should hear. After High School, many feel like they are ready to conquer the world. Sadly, they have no idea what the world has in store for them. They follow the path that has been well worn by those before, and while this path may work for many; it does not work for everyone. This is a story about going off that path, the fear it instilled in me, the struggles it caused, and the passion it ignited.

What Effect Do Gifted Programs Have on Kids?
When I started 1st grade, I was put into a gifted program at my local public school. We were the kids that supposedly had "high IQ's" and the ones who pretty much were believed to be geniuses since we were little kids. During my elementary school, we were taught in different techniques and we were raised thinking we were smarter than those who weren't in the gifted program. Fast-forward 11 years and now it's a completely different situation.

How to Succeed in College While Pursuing a Career
Invest in a planner and use it. It might seem a bit counterproductive to spend your time planning how you’re going to spend your time. However, this is the best way to figure out your schedule to maximize your productivity during the day. Invest in a planning system (such as a digital calendar/reminder, or even a physical planner) to plan out your goals, day-to-day tasks, and important events/deadlines.

High School vs. College
High school, like for many, was not a memorable time for me. It was actually the worst four years of my life, rather than teaching me about English and literature, I learned about the wonders of a common high school boy and how to professionally open a jammed locker. When you're in high school, graduating seems impossible. The SATs are a complete waste of time but are the main reason for stress for most students. The SATs determine so much yet factor in so little as to the diversity of education and the fact that everyone learns and interprets things differently. But that's something for another time.
