Freshman Year: High School
Some say these four years are the best years of your life; the archway, or the bridge of new opportunities full of new adventures. Some say these years go by so fast you really don't remember what happened. But what they don't tell you is that first year—freshman year—is the worst. They don't tell you that you will spend countless nights up all night trying to meet a deadline. That you will lose hours of sleep trying to get up early and look "perfect" and look up to high school standards, but you will always think someone is prettier than you, or has a perfect body. They don't tell you that girls are bitches and guys are man whores. Girls will make fun of you for things you say and things you do, they will even make fun of you for who you talk or hang out with. Some will act like your best friend and within a day or two, they will hate you. They leave out the part where guys will tell you that you're "beautiful" and he "loves you" and will lead you on for weeks, then all of a sudden he is dating a new girl. They also didn't mention that you will study for hours on end and still get a C or D on your test, and that trying your best means that you have to emotionally kill yourself and put huge mental strain on yourself. But they swear "these are the best four years of your life."
Lucie TerkowskiPublished 6 years ago in EducationSchool: It's Not Work...It's Training (and You're out of Shape, So of Course It's Going to Be Hard)
I had the opportunity to work with a student one on one today. This is a student who impresses me as very smart, yet he fails his courses repeatedly. Why? It is simple, or so I thought. He is just not driven to achieve in school.

I was born in the year of 1956. It was a great year. Many great people I know were born that year. My closest friends were born that year. As Frank Sinatra once sang, “It was a very good year.” Even though I was born in 1956, I was actually reborn in September of 1970. That was the year I started high school.

8 Things I Wish I Knew About Musical Theatre Training
Musical theatre from an outsider's view looks like a bit of fun, and in many ways it is. However, once you decide to embark on making this a career, things get a lot more serious. Now I'm in no way trying to tell you not to go for it. If you have a passion and a talent, then why not at least try? Because at the end of the day you can stand with your head high and say you gave it your best shot. However, there's many things that I wish I knew before I started this process and wanted to share it with an aspiring actor.
Rachel HookwayPublished 6 years ago in Education Confessions of a Trainee Teacher
I thought this job was for me. Throughout most of my teenage years, I would tell everyone that I met that I was on the road to becoming a primary educator. I chose my A Levels with the view of how they may help me to get onto a good teacher training course.
New Surroundings
I started college in September 2017 and expected it to be the beginning of a two year prison sentence before I went off to university and went through a four year sentence. I have always hated being in school. Primary (elementary) school and secondary (high) school were the worst experiences of my life. Sure, I had good moments but for the most part, I would never ever want to relive those moments again.
Decentralized Education
Regardless of our respective stances on gun control and other issues, we all want our children to be safe, period. It is easy to focus on our differences regarding how safety can be improved but it is important to reaffirm that regardless of our political leanings we all want a safer world for all concerned.
Michael ThielmannPublished 6 years ago in EducationDaily Thoughts of a College Upperclassman
The transition from teenager to young adult was always a part in my life I looked forward to. Becoming an adult meant more freedom, independence, and living a life I have created for myself. However, in my later years of college, the anxiety level about becoming a "real adult" was at an all time high. There are thoughts that plague the minds of myself and my friends, almost too often:
ACT
Dear Jim, It is wonderful that you are about to take the ACT. However, it would seem that you need some questions answered first, which is reasonable. The ACT reading test is a 35 minute test with 40 questions about reading passages. Each reading passage is about 750 words long and there are 4 passages total. There is one passage about Humanities, Prose Fiction, Science, and Social Science, all with 10 questions per passage. You should know the directions beforehand, so as to not waste time. You should know the layout of the test. On the left side of each column of reading material, there are numbers. These numbers tell you the line number, and they appear every 5 lines. This helps you quickly reference the lines that a question refers to. After reading each passage, the questions are in no particular order and vary in difficulty. You will be given an answer sheet, separate from the test booklet that has the passages and questions, you will use the answer sheet to record your answers. It is important to note that nothing you write in the test booklet is graded, so make sure you use the answer sheet.

Okay, so everyone knows that school is intended to be a place where education and learning happens, it's supposed to be a place where children discover what they want to be when they grow up, it's supposed to be a place to prepare you for reality. Not in America!
Siobhan VibianaPublished 6 years ago in EducationBachelor's Degrees with the Highest Salary Potential
It's no secret that getting a college degree is expensive—criminally so, in many cases. Getting a degree from one of the top private universities can easily leave you with a debt as high as $150,000 for a Bachelor's degree. In the case of medical degrees, becoming a doctor only to realize that you hate it can be a million dollar mistake.
Riley Raul ReesePublished 6 years ago in EducationSpeaking American’ese 101
Now, I know this may feel like your high school English class all over again, but let us be real with ourselves for a moment. We all can admit that we do not know how to use these following word/phrases properly. We will stand up and proudly claim to be full-fledged Americans, and yet we barely know how to speak our own language. Do not worry! Here is a little pick-me-up emergency tip guide to keep handy in your back pocket. I know some of the titles may be a little tacky, so just please bear with me and enjoy a quick laugh.
