Birth and Studies

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on the 5th of September within the year 1888 at Tirutani in Madras, South India.

He belonged to an economically low Brahmin family where his father, Sarvepalli Veeraswami, was an employee within the zamindari, and his mother, Sitamma, taken care of the households.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan did his schooling in both Tirutani, his native place, also as in Tirupati. He did his Bachelors and Master’s Degree within the subject of philosophy.

Radhakrishnan found his education more important and attained many scholarships to afford the tutorial expenses as his family was financially low.

A Career As a Teacher

After his M.A. degree in education, he was offered an assistant lectureship job in the Madras Presidency College.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was too much interested in the philosophical stream and mastered in the subjects like Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Brahma Sutra, etc., which are the different classics in Hindu philosophy.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was not limited to Hindu philosophy but also researched in Jain and Buddhist philosophies. Because of his studies and excellence in the Philosophical field, he got appointed as the Professor of Philosophy at the University of Mysore in the year 1918 and later on got nominated for the same designation at Calcutta University in the year 1921.

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the ambassador to UNESCO and Soviet Union in the years 1946 and 1949, respectively. He was honoured with Vice President’s post in the year 1952 and thus started his contribution as a true leader of India from then on along with his other works.

Radhakrishnan was awarded Bharat Ratna for all his dedication and hard actions he has done in the year 1954.

His two-term lengthier Vice president’s role ended, and he got elected as the President of India in the year 1962. After all his efforts and tiring works, he opted to retire in the year 1967 to live a peaceful life later on.

Dr. Radhakrishnan was one of India’s ideal and most persuasive twentieth-century researchers of relative religion and philosophy. His barrier of the Hindu conventions has been exceptionally influential both in India and the western world.

Death of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was one of the foremost prominent scholars of the 20th century, within the religious conviction and values. He always supported the culture and tradition of Hindus.
