Count, Color, Connect: Hands-On Preschool Math Worksheets

If you ask an adult about their favorite subjects, then you will hardly find any child answering maths as their favorite subject. After all, as we grow up it becomes a daunting subject. However, during the preschool education period, maths is one of the most fun to teach and understand subject because there are a lot of daily activities that involve math. From conducting unique hands-on math activities to counting games, there are plenty of ways to teach young learners about numbers. But what makes learning math more interesting is the unique engaging and interactive way of teaching using worksheets that are designed specifically for preschoolers. So, today we will be discussing the different hands-on preschool math activities that seamlessly blend essential mathematics with creativity and play.

The Best Hands-On Preschool Math Worksheets:

Counting 1-20

One of the first and very interesting hands-on math activities that teachers can experiment with preschoolers is counting 1-20. This activity begins by sitting in a circle and counting around the circle from 1 to 20 each student saying the next consecutive number. Once the students understand the concept, you can introduce them to some new variations. To add a unique touch you can give them a ball that can pop from one student to another and whosoever gets the ball will say the next number. This fun way will help children count from 1 to 20 and even farther from that very easily without penning it down.

Make A Group

The second one on the list is a practical math worksheet which will be filled with loads of giggles. This is one perfect game cum practical worksheet that will make children get up and move. All you have to do is play some music and invite the children to move around in the space. Now stop the music and yell a number that is between any range you want to teach children with. For example 2 and 20. The chaos and counting will ensure the students get into the group of that number. So, any student who does not get up in the group will be the next one that will help you pick the next number.

Shape Scavenger Hunt

Now switching things from numbers to shapes because, during preschool, shapes are also an important concept of math that can't be overlooked. In fact, it's one of the best concepts that can be taught using fun activities. One such activity is the shape scavenger hunt. Take your students on a shape scavenger hunt and give them a list of shapes such as squares, circles, triangles, or any other shape they know about. Let them search for these shapes in their classroom, playground, or any area you want them to search for. You can even conduct this activity at a park too, this will give them conceptual learning while giving them the joy of experiencing a nature walk.

Organize a Pattern Party

How about if we say that you can get creative in teaching the mathematical concepts of patterns? Yes, by organizing a fun pattern party you can do that. All you have to do is provide children with colorful materials like beads, buttons, or blocks. After that encourage them to create their own patterns just as they like. They can be simple patterns like AB patterns or the more complex ones too. This particular activity will help children learn pattern recognition and will also develop robust critical thinking skills. In addition to that, a bonus advantage of this skill is that you make them practice extra alphabets too.

Numberline Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a popular game amongst children and what if you can teach them math using this unique game? Educators can transform the learning numbers concept into a playful game of hopscotch. All you have to do is to create a number line on the classroom floor or on the playground. Once done then let your students jump on the numbers while counting aloud. This particular activity enhances the skills of number recognition, counting, and most importantly gross motor skills. You can let children tell the numbers to their friends while performing this activity to make it an interactive math class.

Go For A Measurement Walk

Measurement walks can be a great activity educators can introduce in their preschools to make children understand the basic concepts of measurements. A fun activity to teach this concept can be the measurement walk. All you have to do is take your students on a measurement adventure around the school or playground. Don't forget to provide them with rulers or some non-standard measuring tools. These tools can be paper clips, and help them by prompting them to measure objects as they find and then compare their lengths. Do tell them to note the measurements of different objects they found during the measurement walk.

Conduct a Color-Number of Race

It's time for the last but the most interactive practical math worksheet for your children. Gear up the students for a color number race like never before. All you have to do is make children stand on the created number path with numbers written on squares or use a simple number line. Now give students a token or specific colour and then ask them to move forward by rolling a die and then counting the number of spaces. This particular activity helps students learn number recognition, counting, understanding of specific colors, and the one-to-one correspondence concept too.

CONCLUSION

So, these are the activities that preschool or the best play schools for your children conduct to teach mathematical concepts in a fun and joyful way. We all know how maths is important for future academics, this is why it is important to make young children fall in love with this subject by laying a strong foundation for their concepts. This way, instead of getting afraid of mathematics they will surely fall in love with it and will do really well!
