Traditional Vs Western

Traditional Feng Shui is based on Yin techniques, designed for choosing a grave for your ancestors. It also contains a lot of false feng shui deliberately inserted to ensure peasants didn’t practice better than an emperor did. The trouble is, no-one can agree on what the false stuff was.

Western, or Black Hat as it’s more commonly called, has all the magnetic directions removed, so it can be very easily explained in books and magazines. It is actually a non-compass version of 8 Aspirations and people who try to do both get very confused very fast, because they are mutually exclusive.

Traditional feng shui doesn’t actually have any tradition involved. It’s just a method passed down for centuries, built of some of the main schools, which were each designed in a different part of what we call china now, across a lot of time. Length of time is mistaken as tradition.

Black Hat is very recent, since the rise of modern media, and the simple explanation expectation of people who want a quick fix.

Neither work very well for the western would. Traditional is based on the yin, and the western world is mostly yang. Black Hat is just simplified to the point of being too basic to work properly, and only covers what you want, not what you get.

The correct feng shui for the western world is YANG feng shui.

The interesting thing is, in feng shui forums, the traditionalists demonstrate how bad their own feng shui is by behaving really badly towards those trying to demonstrate why yang fs works better.

What’s the difference between yin and yang FS?

Yin tries to balance in the middle, where chaos rules (the number 5), and only small cures can be used or the balance is disrupted. But still and quiet is what is wanted. Much of it is based on the Hotu Cross.

Yang balances at the extremes, using the LoShu square. We use large cures to either enhance or exhaust a sector based on the characteristics we want to dominate.

The Hotu Cross predates the Loshu square by about 600 years. Yin methods came first, and why they are treated as the ‘traditional’.

Yin often takes 6 months to a year to see any result. Yang sees results in 2 days, when you get it right.

Western society wants more money, better health, better relationships, better everything. But yin FS doesn’t give you better, just stable. Yang FS gives you the upper extremes modern society is after, although when you get it wrong, you also get the really bad extremes as well.

Most of the people who complain feng shui doesn’t work, have never actually done it right.
