Crucial Exam? Here Are Best Practices for Exam Prep

Everyone has failed to prepare for an exam before, and it is not a pleasant feeling. It is best to proceed with the utmost certainty that you have prepared for a vital exam properly. When you prepare well, a test feels less like pulling teeth at the dentist and more like a quick reminder of all you have learned this past semester. Here are some tips about how to best prepare for a critical exam, including what to do before there is an exam, what to do while studying for one, and a little about tutoring.

Before there is an Exam

Before your teacher schedules an exam, you need to ensure success when it comes time for a test. Taking notes well is vital, and doing so means understanding the purpose of taking them. Notes are repetitions that help you hammer home what you are learning in class. Try taking notes on all the concepts you are learning and then rewriting your notes so that they are in clear handwriting after class. Next, read them to yourself when you are studying for a test. Notes are all about repetition, and that is one step that you need to be sure you are doing well when trying to pass an important exam.

Every hour you spend in class translates to two or three hours of work you should do outside of your lessons. Twelve credit hours is twelve hours of class a week. If you are struggling to see how you could study that much, ensure that you do the assigned readings because they are around an hour an article to finish. That means three articles a week per class you take. Most learning from college courses comes from these articles, not the lessons, and missing them will severely limit your grades, both on any exam and overall.

While Studying for the Exam

Find a study partner or group. A study group is best for accountability, and you shall find that you will be more prepared further from the exam than you would otherwise when studying alone. While it might challenge you to find a group of like-minded people that would love to learn with you, there is a bonus for doing just that. If you are shy, grit your teeth and ask around because you will wind up studying twice as much as before, and you might find that there is someone in your group that has better studying techniques than you, which you can learn.

Concepts will be an essential part of any test you take in school. While knowing names and dates is above and beyond, ensure that you know how to summarize events because that will be on a high school history test. In college, you will learn and practice analysis through your chosen subject, and your teacher will test you on the concepts that the homework has you practicing. Remember that each exam is trying to see if you could do the concepts of the class at work. So, try to do better than guess.

Tutoring

MCAT tutors agree that a competitive MCAT score and acceptance into a prodigious medical school significantly impacted their lives more than they ever imagined. Getting an MCAT tutor provides an outstanding opportunity for students to learn from a tutor and doctor mentor. A tutor can come with professional training, provide organized, custom tutoring and continually assess student progress. Tutoring is available online, and that does not compromise the quality of the help you will receive. Suppose you are studying correctly, but you are still struggling to learn the material. In that case, a tutor can help you bridge the gap in your knowledge until you pass that crucial examination.

You now know that you can take the proper action today and never get caught unprepared on the test day again. Before, you might not have learned how to prepare, but you will come prepared on test day evermore by following this advice. Prep yourself for exams by preparing well before you know there is a test, forming better study habits, and finding help from a tutor if you need to do so. Education is the key to unlocking the type of lifestyle you always dreamed about growing up, and you are at the age where it stops being a dream and starts becoming a reality if you study well.
