An Archimedes Screw
I am currently holidaying in Settle and have places that I enjoy visiting, including walking down to the River Ribble to the weir before the bridge that links Settle to Giggleswick. One of the interesting things that is located there is a water turbine that uses an Archimedes Screw, The basic principle of the Archimedes Screw is to raise water from one level to another ,often seen in irrigation systems and much more efficient than carrying the water in buckets.

Smoke in Our Air and Fire in Our Life
The only thing that I can see around me are hazy trees and roads. The air quality has been getting worse and worse the last few days. Normally, I would be able to see between the Oregon to Washington state line. I would be able to watch the rolling hills and mountains in Washington state and the ships passing by on the Columbia River. None of those things can be seen now. One could imagine a thick fog, but it is not. I would be able to breathe through fog. Even the naturally vibrant evergreen trees seem to be blurred and out of focus. Stepping outside the front porch and driving to work yesterday morning I felt this overwhelming doom. The environment looked very sad. I could not see the sun, there was just a dim light through the smoke and a faint circle of light instead of the glorious glowing rays. I was wondering if our Earth is trying to tell us something. It feels like a fight for our existence. We are dealing with an uncontrolled pandemic, raging fires, unhealthy and hazardous air.

The Wellness Practice of Repurposing Goods and Buying Second Hand
It's crucial to be aware of where our dollars are going. When it comes to spending our money, we have more control than we realize. Being responsible for our environment and the earth means shopping at small businesses to help those around you. Small businesses and supporting local business are a way to help our friends and neighbors. Reusing goods is a thoughtful way to show gratitude for what is already available and not produce more. Be mindful when you make purchases. Think about the origin of the item. Is the item you're buying supporting someone else who is suffering? Is it possible that someone was underpaid and overworked to make the item you want? Is the item really worth its retail price? What was the cost of producing this item? These are the questions to ask when buying new items.

Fast Fashion and the Effects it has on the Environment and How We can Save our Planet.
Background Fashion in general is defined as âthe making or shaping of the appearance of the body by means of clothing and adornment in a way that expresses aesthetic ideals that are continually subject to changeâ according to an article titled âFashion: Origins and Developmentâ written by Lourdes Font and Beth McMahon. Before the 1800s, the creation of clothing was a slow process, as sheep were farmed for wool and that wool was weaved and slowly turned to shirts, dresses and pants. Thankfully, during the Industrial Revolution new textile machines and factories were created in which sped up the process of clothing production according to an article titled âFashion History Lesson: The Origins of Fast Fashionâ by Sara Idacavage. Fast fashion is dated back to 1989 when Anne-Marie Schiro wrote an article, where she talks about the opening of Zara in New York. She calls the Spanish company a âfast fashionâ one since the store is restocked every three weeks with the latest trends in which everyone wanted a taste of according to an article titled âTwo New Stores the Cruise Fashionâs Fast Laneâ written by Anne-Marie Schiro. In addition, H&M opened its first store in the US in 2000 and that was another revolutionary beginning for fast fashion companies as Americans began to believe that cheap is chic and this idea was globalized according to Ruth La. Ferla in the article ââCheap Chicâ Draws Crowds on 5th Aveâ.
