Small Sacrifices

Plant Parts

By Bethany Rose Published 3 years ago 2 min read

I create happiness in a lot of ways, like most people. Joy and love is the whole reason we're here, right? To make the best out of this life and find create happiness even if it's to some mundane, you create your own. I create most of my happiness by gardening and tending to my Ivy's, succulents, and floral plants. In order to properly care for a plant you have to cut or trim the leaves of a plants when they start to wither and rot. I have a small pair of scissors dedicated to doing this delicate job, as to not accidentally cut off a healthy leaf.

Henry is THRIVING!!

The rest of the plant will actually try to save the part of the plant that is sick by sending most of the plants nutrients to said leaf or flower. Taking away what is needed to sustain the plant as a whole. The plant itself and also the owner (me) will try to help the dying part before we make the snip. I will make a banana fertilizer which is just taking a banana peel and leaving it overnight in water. The water becomes rich in minerals, which is a great natural and organic fertilizer that most of the time helps the entire plant, but mostly it's for the part of the plant that isn't doing to well. It's literally medicine for the plant!

Sometimes the medicine doesn't work, and that's okay. As far down the base of the withering leaf as possible, you just have to take the scissors and snip that one leaf off, so the rest of the plant can thrive. Making this small cut can also help the plant spout new leaves and even propagate itself elsewhere, and that's what you want!

So a very small sacrifice for the betterment of the entire plant is well worth it. I think plants can teach us a lot about helping others when they are down as well. The entire plant goes with very little or without completely when a part of the plant isn't doing the best. At no benefit to the rest of the plant, just willingly gives it's all. What a beautiful sentiment to live by.

Helping others with no reward.

Can you spot Henry's sacrifice?

He was so droopy and yellow with the bad leaf still attached. He's good now!
