The Edge of Science: Unveiling Startling Theories About the Universe

By TriumphantPublished 7 days ago 4 min read

Science gives us many inventions that improve our lives, but sometimes it also presents us with some quite frightening theories. I will emphasize theories about dozens of them. I will tell you right now.

Fact is, scientific hypothesis says that our Universe is just a part of a larger universe and our Universe is, as it were, in a false temporary state. Imagine that the real Universe is like a pan of boiling water and our Universe is just a bubble that originated at the bottom of the pan. This false state, called a false vacuum, should eventually cease, even after billions of years. But one day our Universe will simply disappear in the blink of an eye without warning and nothing can be done about it.

Imagine that there are two-dimensional beings. If you look at them from above, they will never see you and will not know about your existence. Now imagine a four-dimensional creature that looks at you from a certain 4D angle. You will never know about such creatures, just like we can interact with 2D creatures and a 4D creature can interact with us, but until they want to. We will never be able to interact with them or even know about them.

Imagine an anthill and suddenly people began to build a huge highway next to it. The question is, will the ants understand what people are building? What is a highway? Will they understand the technologies used for construction and the very intentions of people? Fermi said that since there is such a big chance that there are other civilizations, why we still don’t see their traces, where their probes, spaceships, or signals. A possible answer is that we are like ants in relation to the highway. With the help of our technologies and ways of understanding the world, we cannot even imagine what other civilizations are. Even if life from another part of the Universe wanted to contact us, it would be as clear to us as the Internet is to ants.

Stephen Hawking says the following: although we feel as if we can choose what we do, our understanding of the molecular foundations of biology shows that biological processes are subject to the laws of physics and chemistry, and they are also predetermined as the orbits of planets. In other words, free will is an illusion; these are just chemical reactions occurring in the brain and they are the ones who force one to do this or that action. This is also explained by the fact that people can completely change their personality due to brain injuries, and we often make stupid decisions when we are too tired.

There is an extremely radical theory that time is limited and the end of the Universe will not come because of an explosion, but because time will run out and everything will just stop as if in a computer game. Pressed pause. Technological singularity - this is a term proposed by the science fiction writer Werner Wind. We can understand this term approximately as follows: we are already very close to creating an artificial intelligence much superior to ours, and over time this artificial intelligence will create an intelligence superior to it. So, in terms of exponential growth, something like Moore’s law but only for artificial intelligence. And then a world will come that a person cannot even imagine now, something like a dinosaur that could never imagine our current world. This theory says that the endless growth of the animal population will, as it were, include a special program in them causing behavior associated with self-destruction.

American biologist John Calhoun conducted an experiment with mice called Universe 25. He placed four pairs of mice in a pen with plenty of space for nests, water, and food dispensers; it was a utopia for mice. The population eventually reached 2,200 individuals and began to fall rapidly. During the stabilization period of the Universe 25 population, the aggressiveness of females increased. It was they, the males, who began to actively defend their territory. However, the mothers did not care for the little mice, leaving them to their own fate among the males. Pansexuality, homosexual behavior, and cannibalism began to actively manifest themselves; the females also stopped mating with males. As a result, the population became extinct. Scientists extrapolate this model to humans. Hmm.

Heat death of the Universe. This theory is based on the second law of thermodynamics, which states that if the Universe is infinite, it must also be infinitely old. Because a star that moved away 100,000 light years could only be there if the Universe existed for at least 100,000 years. And if the Universe exists indefinitely, then the temperature of all matter in the Universe will be the same, thus, they will die. All stars. The temperature of all stars will come into equilibrium with the temperature of all surrounding matter.

According to this theory, we can be children of a black hole. The idea is that when matter is sucked into a black hole, it becomes so dense before reaching a singularity that a black hole can throw all this energy back and form a universe from the same matter.

This theorem states that after a long period of time, very long but finite, any closed system will remain in many states but will ultimately return to in the same state as at the very beginning. Let’s say if in a vessel divided by a partition into two compartments, one of which is filled with gas and the other is empty. Remove the partition, then after some time all the gas molecules will again gather in the original part of the vessel, only this time is very, very large.

Thus, what is happening now will be repeated in the future and has already happened in the past. And you most likely have already sat and watched your favorite channel.

Given, I will be glad as a person who has lived an amazing life, because now it is not scary to repeat it.
