Business Road is China's leading independent consulting organization in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR), focusing on corporate social responsibility, sustainable development and responsible investment (ESG) consulting services. With a global vision and localization practice, we are committed to working with customers to develop and implement sustainable development solutions.

On September 27th, under the opportunity of the parallel forum of non-governmental organizations of the United Nations Conference on Biodiversity (COP15), led by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and Solaris Community, a design platform for sustainable products from Sweden, and supported by China's official partners, the "living in the ocean" marine plastic waste design exhibition was unveiled in Kunming, opening a tour of China.

"living in the Ocean" Marine plastic garbage Design Exhibition

The exhibition, born under the framework of the Closing the Loop project led by ESCAP, is based on the topic of recycling of marine recycled plastics, brings together the wonderful ideas and unique ideas of internationally renowned designers, perfectly combines advanced 3D printing technology, converts waste plastics into works of art, and provides new inspiration for marine waste management through design and art. The exhibits include chandeliers, ornaments, fabrics and other household products, which are trendy, environmentally friendly and practical, promoting cross-border integration and sustainable circular economy, and effectively promoting the establishment of a global green supply chain paradigm.

The ocean is closely related to everyone's life. According to the United Nations, more than 3 billion people around the world depend on marine and coastal resources for their livelihoods; the oceans regulate the global climate through mechanisms such as ocean currents and carbon sinks, while storing about 93 per cent of the Earth's CO2 and absorbing about 1/3 of the annual carbon emissions from human activities, which are related to the response to global climate change. The ocean is the most biologically diverse system, occupying more than 90 per cent of the earth's habitat. There are currently about 250000 known species, while 2/3 of marine species remain unidentified. There is growing evidence that marine biodiversity plays a key role in the health of the planet and social well-being.

The health of the ocean depends on the health of human beings. However, marine plastic waste is threatening the marine ecosystem, and marine ecological protection Brooks no delay. Plastic is a special product of human activities. According to the MacArthur Foundation, 8 million tons of plastic waste are dumped into the ocean every year, and the global demand for plastic is expected to double in the next 20 years. Only 14% of plastic is recycled every year.

In order to improve the efficiency of sustainable product development and design, Closing the Loop project and Solaris Community platform integrate the relevant parties in the value chain of upgrading and reengineering, bringing more ecological innovation from scientific laboratories to people's lives. After collection, marine plastic waste is collected, sorted, registered, cleaned and crushed by local fishermen and social enterprises, then tested and produced and upgraded to a multi-purpose granular material: particles are used for plastic injection molding and 3D printing, while yarns can be used in clothing and any scene where high-quality polyester textiles are used. Instead of simply demonizing plastics, the diversified household art works in this exhibition redefine waste plastics, extend the life cycle of plastics through design, and block the pollution path to the sea, showing the potential of plastic recycling and the unique value of circular economy.

"Let beauty return to beauty, and the power of design allows beauty to achieve a cycle. I hope that while this exhibition will amaze the audience, it will also cause people to think about a sustainable way of life, "said Ms. Lang Hua, co-curator, business partner and deputy general manager of the ocean plastic garbage design exhibition." in daily life, reduce the use of disposable plastics, be more rational and less impulsive in clothing, food, housing and transportation, and choose products that are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Save resources, do not waste, and actively participate in recycling in the process of using the product. We believe that everyone can become a 'circular life art sculptor'. "

The audience exchanged views on the exhibits.

This exhibition not only collects the works of the world's top designers, but also collects and displays excellent Chinese local design works represented by the Beijing Institute of Fashion, the Institute of Ecological Design of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, and the social creation brand "Baopu Regeneration BOTTLOOP". Promote the practical development of marine ecological governance and sustainable circular economy in China and the world through in-depth exchanges and collisions between arts.

China has been actively implementing its commitments to protect the ocean. Both the 14th five-year Plan and the outline of the long-term goals for 2035 call for coordinated promotion of marine ecological protection, a sustainable marine ecological environment, and deep participation in global marine governance. The landing of this exhibition in China is a positive response to the goal of "promoting the protection and construction of beautiful bays". It also hopes to forge consensus and join forces to allow more people to participate in the protection of marine ecology.
