In March 2012, a horrific wolf wounding incident occurred in Zaozhuang, Shandong Province, resulting in 2 deaths and 5 serious injuries.

It was an 8-year-old boy and a 62-year-old woman who were bitten to death by the wolf. Although the other five victims were not life-threatening, they also left various degrees of pain that could never be erased. There were also multiple bite marks on the ears, back of head and limbs.

Faced with such a vicious wolf, the local public security quickly dispatched.

According to the police who participated at the time: "The culprit was a wolf with gray fur, not big, but extremely ferocious. At that time, more than 100 police officers were dispatched, equipped with real guns and live ammunition. Even so, we still hunted down. More than 20 kilometers, it took more than 2 hours to subdue it."

The police also added: "The wolf's vitality is too tenacious. At that time, it was shot in the front leg and still fled everywhere. We chased and crossed 4 rivers to surround it. Seeing so many people, the wolf is not afraid. , also tried to attack us and run away, but was killed in the end."

It took more than 2 hours for more than 100 people to kill a wolf with the help of weapons. Are wolves really so scary?

The power of the wolf is perfectly reflected in its predation strategy.

As we all know, wolves are the largest members of the canine family. The size of the different species varies greatly. The North American gray wolf is relatively large and can weigh up to 70 kilograms, while the average weight of the Arabian wolf is only 18 kilograms.

The wolf's most powerful weapon is its sharp teeth and strong bite force. Its canine teeth can reach up to 6cm in length, and the masseter muscle can provide about 400 pounds of bite force, which can break bones in one bite.

Judging from these hardware conditions alone, the wolf's ability is not outstanding. A sturdy adult is bigger than it, and the bite force is not the best in the animal kingdom.

In fact, it is the wolf's cooperation ability and IQ that really establishes the wolf's status as the top predator.

Wolves are pack animals, usually dominated by families, consisting of a pair of mates and their offspring. The number is generally 5-8, and of course there are rare large groups of 42.

In addition to having a strict social structure, wolves also have a strong sense of territory. Under normal circumstances, they only settle within their own territory.

Wolves are very intelligent animals that adjust their hunting strategies according to the type, size and danger of their prey.

When hunting alone, they will choose smaller prey, and when hunting in groups, they will choose to prey on prey much larger than themselves. When hunting large herds, such as bison and elk, they have their own way:

1. Tracking

Within their territory, wolves will constantly move back and forth in search of prey.

In the evening, the hunt officially began.

A wolf's sense of smell is comparable to that of a dog, and its sense of smell is very sensitive. Even in an icy and snowy environment, wolves can smell the smell of prey under the thick snow layer, and then use their sensitive limbs to quickly catch up with the prey.

Wolves have great stamina and are very patient, and hunts can sometimes go on all night.

2. Chase

Once the prey is found, the chase begins on both sides.

The prey kept running, trying to escape, while the wolf kept chasing behind. During the chase, the wolf was very patient, not in a hurry to catch up with the prey immediately, but with the help of excellent stamina, just like a man chasing a duck , forcing the prey to keep running to consume energy.

During the chase, the wolves will choose the weakest individual of the prey, and then surround it.

The wolves will spread out and surround the prey from all directions. The purpose of surrounding the prey is to ensure that the prey will not escape, which can greatly improve the success rate of hunting.

3. Attack

When the prey is exhausted and its running speed begins to drop, the real attack begins.

In order to slow down the prey, the wolf has two ways: one is to bite the prey, and then rest around for a few hours, waiting for the prey to become so weak from the blood loss that it can't move; the other is to bite the prey's fur , dragging the prey with its body, causing the prey to slow down and eventually stop.

Once the prey stopped, the wolves tore the prey in all directions, and finally the prey died and the wolves feasted.

Where is the life gate of the wolf?

Talking about the fate of wolves is actually asking, how should humans save themselves if they encounter wolves?

I think that compared with humans, the life of wolves is mainly: size and intelligence.

In nature, the size advantage is very obvious.

In terms of size alone, the average weight of a wolf is much smaller than that of an adult man. It is possible for an adult man to defeat a wolf with his bare hands.

In 2021, a Russian farmer killed a wolf with his bare hands, weighing 140 and 70 pounds respectively. The farmer's strategy for victory was to endure the pain of being bitten by the wolf, still strangle the wolf's neck with force, and finally strangle the wolf to death.

In 2012, also in Russia, a 56-year-old woman killed a wolf with an axe.

In addition to directly locking the throat, there is another way to subdue the wolf, which is to sacrifice one hand, clench the hand into a fist, and put it directly into the wolf's open mouth. If the hand is deep, the wolf's mouth cannot be closed, nor can it bite stop. At this time, use the other hand to attack the wolf's face with force to win.

The above is still in the absence of any weapons. If there are weapons, the battle with the wolf will be easier. As long as the fear is not too weak, the probability of winning is still very high.

But if you encounter a pack of wolves, you need not only the right time and place, but also enough courage and resourcefulness.

at last

A wolf is an animal after all, and it still has many weaknesses, such as being afraid of fire, strong light, noise, and being kicked in the abdomen (refer to the weakness of pet dogs).

In fact, without full confidence or experience in hunting large prey, wolves will not take the initiative to attack large prey, and humans are not in the wolf's menu.

There are very few real cases of wolves attacking humans, and most of the incidents of wolf cannibalism that are heard belong to the category of legends.

In general, the wolf is a very successful animal, but it must fight with humans. With the advantages of smart brains and tools, humans have a high winning rate.

But this does not mean that everyone can do it. The calmness and courage at critical moments are not available to everyone. I am the kind of person who sees wolves and makes my legs weak!
