Greta Thunberg is either an irritant or you agree with her. Ms. Thunberg first came to prominence when she was 15. She picketed the Swedish parliament on behalf of the state of our planet. Since then she has become a spokesperson and activist for her generation.

She has called the plan to hold 'Cop 27' in Egypt a scam. In a way, it is, just like 'Cop 26' in Glasgow where David Attenborough in his 90s stayed awake. Stayed awake listening to speeches from the stage while Boris in his 50s dozed.

Ms. Thunberg has also attacked King Charles and Rishi Sunak for not attending 'COP 27'. Rumours abound that Wishy-Washy Rishi may attend. So if Sunak attended would that mean the King would reconsider also?

Apparently, when Sunak and Charles had a chinwag Sunak advised Charles not to attend.

This government is more concerned about the state of Britain's finances. Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be discussing this at the cabinet meeting this morning. As I mentioned in a previous article the Autumn Statement will be released on November 17th. It will contain austerity measures and as usual ordinary folk will feel the pinch.

The 'COP 26' meeting was made such a fuss of. Pundits and media outlets said at the time it would be a turning point. Agreements made there are still by and large yet to be honoured. It is just a huge talking shop where delegates, world leaders, companies, etc, can prance about feeling important. "Look at us, look how we are going to save the world" as they enjoy lavish meals and drinks. As they meet in a Middle Eastern dictatorship like the Middle East and Africa mostly are.

All the delegates and world leaders will be making yet more carbon footprints as they fly into Egypt. They will make yet more speeches and demonstrate how aware their nations are of climate change. Yet China, the USA, India, etc, remain the biggest polluters on the planet. It's okay for President Biden to commit the US to do this or that about climate change. However, if Trump or a Trumpist is back in the White House all that will be torn up.

Meanwhile, Greta says she understands why groups like 'Extinction Rebellion' or 'Just Stop Oil' do what they do. For example, 'Just Stop Oil' wants the government to grant no new oil or gas licenses. It is fossil fuels that are causing the planet to heat up and cause freak weather. Thus impacting all life on this planet including our own species. We humans as we deal with freak weather and other consequences are only reaping what we have sown.

One truly wonders about the commitment to engage with climate change from the UK government. Yes, Mr. Sunak has re-banned fracking after Liz Truss lifted the ban. Sunak and Hunt are obsessed with the economy which is understandable. After all, in our materialistic society, it's cold, hard cash that pays the bills and keeps the UK afloat. With the Ukraine-Russia war raging and the ability of Russia to use fossil fuels as a weapon that shows how weak we are. We should have stepped up alternative fuels like nuclear, hydrogen, solar, and wind. So that when the time came for Russia to blackmail us we would have been prepared. But obviously, no one thought that such a possibility would become a reality. Or maybe someone did but no one was listening or dismissed it out of hand.

One thing is for sure the planet because of our activity is changing. For example, the current British Autumn we are experiencing is milder. I saw a magpie carrying a twig in its beak. The poor thing must have been confused by the milder weather thinking it was nesting time. Solutions must be forthcoming for our species, other species, and the planet in general. Though frankly, I don't expect miracles from this 'COP 27' and it may be already too late.
