CRACK! Heavy eyed, the brave girl looks toward the egg. CRUNCH! It moved! Something was happening! She stayed very still, nearly holding her breath as she watched in amazement. Her hand on her laser pointer button, just in case what came out wasn't as excited to see her. SMACK! A piece of glowing shell flew into Kensley's face!

“Ugh,” but she’s not phased. She’s too eggcited to let a lil’ ol’ piece of cracked egg keep her from witnessing this. “Oh. My. God.” Her eyes widened, body heavy. “Whoa.” For once in Kensley Emerson’s life, she was speechless.

I don’t even know how to describe to you what she saw, but I'll try my best. One large, round, greenish face with two bulging eyes was staring straight into Kensley’s, right through to her heart. Every hair on her body stood straight up. Her skin was covered in those little things she calls spook bumps.

She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Was this a dream? Inside that bright neon egg, was a giant firefly, or a huge glowing dragonfly, or a tiny dragon. The creature’s wings popped up out of the egg and Kensley jumped a little. Still locked in eye contact, our red-headed wonder woman tried to make sense of this rare species in front of her.

It looks like- a dragon. Well, not the type you see in most movies. It had the wings and face of a dragonfly, its body glowed like a firefly. It was huge, for a bug, but not for- a dragon.

Well, you couldn’t blame her shock. Yes, I know we all kind of, but didn’t see that coming. Give the sixteen year old a break. None of us were sure what it was.

Attention now, our young Lara Croft is looking face to face with who she's decided to call “Firefly”. Such a stunning creature. She slowly pulls herself up off the floor, careful not to startle it. Very lightly, she takes a step towards it. Their eyes still locked, she moves a little closer.

Simply amazing! It’s body glows from head to tail just like a, well you got that part. Keep in mind here, this egg was larger than a barn bucket. Our youngster from the city is starring in the very large eyes of a potentially very hungry baby dragonsaur-fly creature underneath the floor of an old barn. Our girl, well, she's not too afraid of this monster. Really, she's just wondering how to take care of it.

“Well now. Wasn’t expecting, well i wasn’t sure what i was expecting. So , here we are. I suppose you don't know what you are either. Well, I'm Kensley, and I’ll call you ‘Firefly’.”

The dragon-like creature’s head tilted as if it were actually listening. Kensley’s heart jumped with a mixture of fear and excitement.

“I assume you're hungry. Let’s find out what you eat. Come along.”

Little miss Doolittle motions towards the ladder as if the fresh out the egg baby would understand, let alone be able to actually climb it. She was so stunned by what was happening, she'd lost her normally logical thinking skills.

“Silly me,” she chuckled, putting her hand over her mouth and pulling it away again. “I'll have to go get you some options. I sure hope it's a grass diet for you.”

She tiptoed backward toward the ladder, making a stay signal with her hands. Not sure how to speak to her one of a what’s it hatchling, she assumed hand signs to be a good choice. One handed, she climbed up, keeping her eyes on Firefly as long as she could.

“Okay. Quickly gather options. Use bucket. Grass? Flowers? Whole, smashed, or cut? EWW! Will I have to chew something up for this thing?”

Kensley was so shocked, so amazed, and so unsure of what to do. The sun was barely peeking over the horizon now, and she was thankful for the light. Collecting her thoughts, she decided the first step was to pull up the bucket. Tugging at the rope was harder than she’d thought.

Surprisingly it was much heavier than she’d expected. As she struggled to pull it up, she noticed that same beautiful glow getting closer and closer. Firefly had come out of the egg and into the bucket! She was glad her new friend was a little smaller than the egg that had housed it.

“Such a clever thing you are. Let’s go find you some food.”
