Exploit Oceans, Not People

Why using the largest water bodies promotes human life.

Nearly everything we use today has been affected by fossil fuels, and that’s a good thing. The oceans represent a significant part of daily existence. The fact that mankind has advanced to use fossil fuels to desalinate and clean up the water we use daily is a boon to human flourishing. It is completely ironic how fossil fuels continue to permit human beings to extend life, but that’s what they do. Folks say that the oceans are overrun with filth and garbage. Companies like 4Ocean are allegedly dedicated to clearing the waters. For instance, their Mobile Skimmer collects plastic waste from water bodies. It all rests on fossil fuels.

It’s all about ethics

As far as the oceans go, it is important to remember that like author Alex Epstein in his brilliant work, The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels (2014) points out that water isn’t always just readily available for human consumption. Our oceans need fossil fuels and nuclear power more than any time in history. The water that is channeled, cleansed, and ends up in water bottles and taps is a result of the sophisticated network of developed countries. Epstein points out that, “Substances like arsenic or lead or mercury” get cleared out of the water because of fossil fuels.

Without being the scourge of the planet, fossil fuels propel professionals to solve the problem of the shortage in freshwater available to people and keep oceans pristine. Epstein points this out in his book when he describes how chemicals treat the water to make it potable. It is because of fossil fuels that we can watch Tik Toks, drive Teslas (they’re made in plants powered by coal), live in comfortable homes, and work in factories, and go about in huge cities. Fossil fuels also clean the oceans. The aforementioned heavy metals that exist in the world’s water bodies are removed through the might of treatment plants that take out these harmful components from our seas.

Develop the entire world

Those factions who decry the use of fossil fuels do not have the alternative fuels available that can match what fossil fuels do. Especially in the developing world, wind and solar can’t hold a candle to the power of fossil fuels. It appears that these groups don’t really care about human life, or any other life for that matter. They just want to see destruction. This nihilism extends itself to the health and well-being of our oceans. Based on what I’ve seen and read, it is only fossil fuels that can save them. Morally, it is up to mankind to protect the oceans for the many values that they provide. From studying different species to providing food to billions of people and industries like whale watching, oceans are a major value.

A group about nothing

Now with groups like Black Lives Matter (BLM), they attempt to integrate Marxist notions with environmentalist groups. What they call “environmental justice” is just another man-hating ploy to bait youngsters into fear campaigns. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has provided groups like BLM ammunition to promote their cause. They see inequality among man and nature and they’ll damn man before considering how both can coexist. They don’t really care about earth, sky, and sea. By rallying around wind farms and solar panels they show their apathy towards the lives of billions all over the world. They just want those who enjoy the pleasures of this earth to grovel and suffer without electricity, towering skyscrapers, automobiles, jet planes and any number of fantastic products that fossil fuels provide.

Challenging the status quo

With the advent of technology, no wind turbine farm or solar panel array can even match a fraction of what fossil fuels can do. I don’t think that those two ideals have to be opposites. I will fight for the usage of fossil fuels to help heal our oceans and other waterways. These fossil fuels power the plants and machines and vessels that use what Epstein says are “Chlorine, ozone or ultraviolet light to kill off any potentially harmful organisms” before they reach a single glass. By showing people that driving a Tesla and recycling, reducing, and reusing will not get the job done, I will be on the frontlines. In this battle over ideas, I will demonstrate how oil, coal, natural gas, and fuels like nuclear power have sustained and promoted the longevity of our oceans. I will continue to tell friends and family and plan to argue with YouTube personalities that what the world needs now is fossil fuels, glorious fossil fuels.
