2021 Welcomes Autumn Equinox!
A Simple Season Change Commentary by iiiYansaje T. Muse
Iba Se’ Oba IgbaLaye.
The spirit of the four seasons begins a scene change.
Its Wednesday...the midweek climax.
Onile begins to cool Oya’s hot summer winds.
Ajalaiye, Ajalorun. Its ancestor season, Iba se Egungun.
The lush green of the leaves turn brown, red, transition off the trees,
And blow out the red carpet to usher in harvest season.
And show us how easy it is to let go
An ideal time to search your being for many reasons
to give thanks.
Its first full moon whispers the purpose of the whole season….harvest.
The earth scene is golden. Brown, golden and red leaves that were once green cover the ground. The hot, summer winds cool, and pumpkins, squash, and corn, and beans seem to be more appetizing. The 3 sisters come to feed from the harvest. The toils of summer reveal their fall. The earth tilts her thing along the Equator. Its autumn equinox.
This season houses the western zodiac signs of Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. Cardinal air, fixed water, and mutable fire. The African Zodiac signs that this season houses are The Distance, The Child of the Word, and the Harvest in the Granary. The next 90 days are the time where the veil between the earthly and ancestor realm is the thinnest. Perhaps this is why Thanksgiving (celebrating harvest), All Hallows Eve, Halloween, and Dia De los Muertos, and Sankofa: Caravan to the Ancestors (all ancestor holidays) fall under the Autumn Equinox time frame. Speaking of fall, the word itself is a nickname for the season, given by the leaves. In the way of the tarot, the autumn represents the west wind. The sunset. The mothers. The waters of libation.
It is a period of reflections, gratitude, and resting. However, Neptune’e retrograde will bring a challenge to our developing compassion. Interestingly, 2017, 2018, and 2021 all saw 7 planets in retrograde at once. This makes reflecting on the past imperative, almost spiritually mandatory. Trying times as these bring so much to reflect on. Reflection is where the deepest, most intense evolutions begin...the permanent kind. Indulging some into reflection can recall memories to show gratitude for while bringing to our attention the aspects that need transitioning. Autumn is a perfect time to let what doesn’t serve you die...and blow away. The trees demonstrate.
2021 is the year of the 5. Osun beckons us to find beauty in the war times, as well as the beauty of your endurance. Let some leaves fall away while diffusing into all arenas of self. In the energy of Autumn Equinox, mutable Virgo Earth shifts to the cardinal air of Libra. She calls for your inner scales to find a deeper balance, to start. After about 30 days there, she stills the air and fixes the water...to bring in ancestor memory and/or a scorpion sting. 30 days later, that fixed water sets aflame to mutable fire, ever learning about itself through others. It aims high, and rightfully so. In aligned lament terms, allow your quest for balance attract the reflections needed to inspire you to aim high. The energy of autumn equinox is RIPE for that.
Ask, yourself...if you dare...how does your seasons’ harvest reflect your being? What will you begin to stash away for winter this year? What needs to die and fall away from you, like leaves off a tree? The fallen leaves make a carpet that paves your new path. What does that transitional path look like?
If the answers to these questions don’t come to mind right away, its ok. Just free yourself and enjoy this autumn equinox, and let the answers come naturally.
You may find a few clues in your leaves that just... naturally fall away. Happy Autumn Equinox!
Ase in Love,
