Introduction
This is another series I thought I would try out, as it had a high IMDB score and looked interesting. As usually I was not initially impressed. Because of its anime/manga origins (the cartoon is also on Netflix, and it dumped me into that when I thought I was continuing with the series).
It has grown on me, but I am not going to binge-watch, although I have watched five one-hour episodes this week.
You can catch it on Netflix here
What Do I Like?
The blurb says this:
Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew explore a fantastical world of endless oceans and exotic islands in search of the world's ultimate treasure to become the next Pirate King.
The first episode starts with an execution, resulting in everyone wanting to be a pirate. We see Monkey as a child and how he becomes what he is by eating a dodgy fruit.
There is a quest for the mysterious "One Piece", but there are lots of familiar characters and storylines thrown into this plot.
I have seen Peter Pan, Game of Thrones, Edward Scissorhands, The Joker, Ninjas and martial arts and a lot more.
The villains are perfect pantomime villains, taking advantage of anyone they can as our heroes battle to complete their quest.
Oh, and there are monsters too, and some incredible pirate ships.
Conclusion
I have just given you a taste of this and what I think of it. I have two series to watch, and each episode I have seen has been great fun. It is not deep and meaningful, but I am finding it very enjoyable.
If it tempts you even very slightly, try at least two episodes, and you may like it as much as me
