In the early 90’s there was a movie that has gone on to be one of my favorites called “Betsy’s Wedding”, my favorite character in the whole motion picture is Betsy, the bride herself played by the iconic actress Molly Ringwald.
I love Betsy because to me till this day represents my inner ideal, that of an open minded person, fashion designer , progressive free spirit and a vegetarian I still deep down see myself in this character that Molly Ringwald had played so very well.

To me the character of Betsy is also liberal when being a liberal was actually a good thing and did not connect you to the socialist and communist party. For a time that was also my ideal to be a liberal when it meant something good and pure. All through the movie I would always wanted to see more of Betsy too.

Betsy certainly had a fabulous style and fashion sense that was uniquely and fiercely all her and the character was enrolled in fashion school somewhere in New York City. I love the wedding dress redesigned by Betsy on the day of her wedding it had a top hat and I personally have always been a fan of top hats along with those boots she’s wearing.

Another way in which Betsy represented my ideal was that she was so modern and forward thinking and I guess that I had said that but it does bear repeating as much. If being a hipster were a thing back then Betsy would have been it.

My mother had gotten me this movie as a birthday present one year. This movie in itself I am surprised that it didn’t go on become an lgbtq classic I mean it has everything to qualify it for such a distinction including Betsy’s fashions that she had worn all through the entire motion picture.

Now although much of the movie was focused on how her father could pay for her wedding by turning to the mob I always waited for the scenes with Betsy.
