Barbie Dreamscapes is a Disappointment
Can't even stand reading

A Barbie novel is a wonderful project for someone to uptake, this one however is a huge flop. It is painful to see the doll company I have loved hire someone to write a complete disgrace to Barbie. The book even starts about the author bragging about being the first to write a Barbie book. There are hundreds of Barbie books and writings, plus anyone with the pleasure of being handed the project by the actual company would be humble. The woman who wrote the Dreamscapes book is most definitely not that way.
Barbie is an intelligent figure for women of all ages. She is an inspiration and fulfills all dreams. She works several jobs and is a boss diva. Displaying her as someone who is a bit dumb and freaked out be getting a career is ridiculous. This depiction is so opposite of the picture on the books cover of her wearing armour. She looks like someone strong ready to push forward to figure out anything, yet falls apart constantly. She doesn't push through anxiety and gets back up, she crumbles.
In the book, it doesn't make sense that she would be given a career that doesn't fit. It tells of her set in a box as a doctor even though she can't function around blood. That is ridiculous and would not happen. A career that makes the best sense for her to go after would be the best for the story. In order to depict everything not being perfect, the writer could have shown her the real struggles in a career that fits her. A writer could have writers block and a hotel manager could have a PR disaster she has to find out how to navigate.
If still wanted to go with a doctor: her story could be a struggle in the career feeling unclean, but she could come to realize that hospitals are cleaner than schools and grocery stores. They are really set on disinfecting and sterilizing unlike stores that barely wipe the coffee spills out of the aisles. It was also upsetting the way she spoke about her graduating from high school was as if she was a peaked mean girl instead of a trailblazer ready to take on the world at large.
The fates in this book are seen as some group who can make anybody do what they want if they are jealous and then seen as never making mistakes. They are obviously giving some of the dolls careers that don't fit them and everyone just says they know best and have control with no push back to what is pretty obvious sabotage. It's like a bad system that isn't just because of manipulation to think it's good, it is blatantly messed up and nodded yes to. Possibly because some of them get exactly what fits, but seems that should make them question more why some others are so off almost like on purpose incompetence after seeing the fates do something so well.
Pink is not referenced as her own favorite color in the book which is sad because it is her signature, so giving that to someone else is a shame. I don't even get the reason for the dream part, just something to cause tension not just in her "perfect" world in front of her? It was a strange addition that didn't flow. Nothing in this whole book really flowed anyways so there is that.... I hope to read actually good Barbie stories soon and be upset for the moment they hire people who let their entitled friend write a book so many other writers who enjoy Barbie would have done a more spectacular job on.
