Intro.

For many, growing up in some of the worst of the most deprived places, this is a real question.

Put yourself in the shoes of some young people.

Imagine…

There seems to be NO future where you live.

(This might not always an “inner city” area, it might also be a very isolated rural area in poverty, also!)

You, for whatever reason, whether economic or aptitude, have not qualifications to speak of.

But despite this, you are young and full of sort of undue confidence and the sort of “Piss and Wind” that comes as the dual blessing and curse with being so young.

You may be angry at a world that keeps telling you to bow and kneel,

When, inside, every fibre of your being is screaming at you shout, “Fuck them!” and fight!

You both want to rebel AND feel you need a place that you belong at the same time!

You feel you have something to prove to a disinterested world, that never wants you to prove it!

You are NOT lazy! (You know this, deep down, no matter what those above and around have kept telling you, all your life! – well done “YOU” for refusing to listen to their crap!)

Your only options are…

A gang… not just some local thing, but sometimes a large cartel whose members flash the cash and “seem” to have all the respect in your area.

And

The armed forces, who promise adventure, skills, and meaning beyond this stifling home sky.

These seem to be your ONLY choices!

So, which is it going to be?

Crime or Commitment?

Forces or so-called “New Family”?

Ethics or Enterprise?

A “call of duty” or a “grand theft auto”?
