Kayla Berg

Kayla Berg was 15 years when she went missing from the very town I live in. Antigo, Wisconsin. So scary because this easily could have been my children, could have been your children. Please know your kid’s whereabouts at all times.

Kayla and her mother Hope were on their way back from Texas. Living in Texas for two months trying to make a go of it down there did not work out as planned. Hope had Kayla stay with her grandparents until she found a place for them and get on her feet.

She was excited to move back to her hometown and see all her friends again. She was going to make the most of it with only a couple of months left of her summer vacation and school starting back up again. She had not told her mother but she was going back and forth to Wausau, Wisconsin which was some 35 miles away from Antigo. She went to see her friends in Wausau and party with them. A lot of them are older than her. She had an ex named Miguel who was 19 years old. They were talking about getting back together recently.

On the night of August 11th Kayla went out to hang out with friends. She went to Wausau with a friend of her brother Kevin Kielcheski who was 24 years old. He was practically family with Kayla and her parents and brother. So he was a trusted person. After she left with him that night she told another friend she would call her. That call never came. Kayla never came home.

When asked the first time by the police he hesitated with his story a bit but explained that he dropped her off at this house on Wausau Ave. When the place was located they realized it was an abandoned house. This used to be where her ex Miguel used to live. Miguel had to move from the house it got condemned. Kayla knew Miguel had moved so people were wondering why she would ask to get dropped off at an address he no longer lived.

Her mom was really wondering about this story together because Kayla was extremely afraid of the dark. She knows her daughter would not go into a dark house all alone. A lot of people say that the police were not actively looking for Kayla not like they should have been, they say Kayla left on her own accord since this is something she has done before, not come home. Hope and Kayla just had a conversation about her leaving and not getting a hold of her or her father to let them know where she was at. So Hope knew something was not right about this whole situation because her daughter would have called.

When the police went back to talk to Kevin again, seeing as his story seemed off the first time. Kevin refused to talk and got a lawyer. Hope right away said if he is not guilty of anything why would he have to get a lawyer. Police arrested him for taking Kayla out driving around and smoking marijuana with her. They charged him with reckless endangerment. They took this opportunity to use luminal on his jeep, which showed some blood stops that yielded nothing. They also did the same to Miguel’s care which had the same results.

Miguel also told the police he had not seen Kayla since the Friday before when he had a party at his new place. That was the last time he had seen Kayla. It has now been 13 years since she had disappeared, the police had followed up on every lead and tip they had and all yielded nothing. Not one person has come forward with any information to lead to the whereabouts of Kayla Berg.
