Web Of Lies

As Jessica sat in her room doing homework late one Saturday night, she suddenly felt as though she were being watched. The time was around 10pm, and Jessica could hear the sound of something rumbling in the bushes outside her window and started to feel uneasy. Jessica slowly rolled off her bed and walked towards her room door. As she reached out to grab the doorknob, she instantly saw a flash coming from her window as if someone were taking pictures of her. Jessica was freighted of what she had just seen. She quickly opens her room door and shouted, "Dad help me!" as loud as she could. Her father ran downstairs to check on Jessica and make sure she was safe. After Jessica had told her father what had happened, her father went outside to make sure no one was there. When Jessica's father returned, he had told her that someone had run away from the house and had left behind a weird, mysterious looking black book.

When Jessica saw the little black book, curiosity sat in her mind. She looked at her father and lied, telling him that the strange black book was hers, that she had lost a few days ago. Her father gave her the book and called the police to inform them of the intruder. Once the police came and completed their investigation, a police cruiser stayed outside of Jessica's house to make sure that the intruder wouldn't come back.

Once Jessica made it back into her bedroom, she decided to look through the little black book, to see if the intruder had left anything reveling about themselves inside. As she looked at the book, she saw that it was old and dirty with a chain and lock wrapped around it, leaving everything inside a secret. Jessica walked over to her dresser, grabbed a hair pen, and began to pick the lock to the mysterious black book.

Suddenly the lock came undone and fell to the floor. Jessica unraveled the chain that was around the book and quickly opened the cover page. As the cover flew open, she saw that the book had a table of contents, that contained names and pictures of girls that attend her high school Including herself. Jessica wondered who this person was, and how did they know the girls that had moved away from her school and most importantly how did they know her? Jessica then turned to the first page and saw a link to a website inside.

Without hesitating Jessica grabbed her laptop and typed in the website on her browser. Once the website had loaded, Jessica could see nothing but a black screen with a little white box asking for Jessica's name, number, and email. Even though Jessica was scared of what could happen, she filled out the form and pushed submit. Suddenly, Jessica's computer screen went completely black for about 30 seconds and came back on. Jessica sat there confused until her cell phone started to ring.

Jessica reached over to her phone and answered. As she put the phone up to her ear, she could hear someone breathing on the other end. Jessica replied saying, "hello?", but the call remained silent. Jessica quickly hung up the phone and threw it to the other side of the bed. As Jessica sat there in fear, wondering if the mysterious call came from the person outside of her house, she heard the sound of an email notification coming from her laptop.

Jessica reached for her laptop and opened the email. When Jessica opened the email, she was filled with instant regret. Her computer was black once again with large white words saying, "Game starting in..." with a countdown starting from 10. Jessica tried to turn her laptop off, but nothing would work. When the countdown had finished, her phone started to ring once again. Without hesitation she Jessica picked up the phone and yelled "Stop calling me or I'll-" before she could finish her sentence the mysterious man said "I have full access to your phone, laptop, social media and much more. If you want to live you must complete a task in 24 hrs. If you accept and complete the task you will live, and receive $20,000; however, if you reject, fail, call the police or tell anyone, you and everyone involved will die. I will send you an email that will disappear after you have read it. Good luck, Jessica". The mysterious man hung up the phone leaving Jessica scared and confused. For the rest of night Jessica laid in bed tossing and turning thinking about the mysterious phone call she had received, wondering what task she was soon going to be given.

The next day at school Jessica was on edge. Jessica had told her best friend Destiny what had happened the night before and wondered what she should do. Destiny had told Jessica that she should go to the police right after school before anyone got hurt. Jessica agreed and had ask Destiny to go with her after school. Destiny agreed and had told Jessica to meet her at her house after school so that they could put an end to this madness. For the rest of the school day Jessica started to feel better. Once the last bell of the day ranged Jessica had texted Destiny that she was going to run home, change her clothes and be on her way, but there was no response. Jessica quickly went home, changed her clothes and drove straight to Destiny's house.

Once Jessica arrived at Destiny's house, she walked up to the front door, and saw that it was slightly opened, and walked inside. As Jessica walked in, she yelled out "Destiny, are you here?" but there was no response. As she continued to walk further into the house Jessica saw that the house was a mess as if someone had broken in. Jessica started to worry and quickly yelled "Destiny are you ok!”, once again there was no response. when Jessica finally reached the kitchen, she saw Destiny laying face down laying in her own blood, with a knife in her back. Jessica started screaming, and quickly called 9-1-1. Once there, the police announced Destiny dead on the scene, and had questioned Jessica, asking how Jessica knew Destiny, and who would want her dead?

Later that night Jessica received a call once again. She picked up the phone without saying a word. The mysterious man said to Jessica "I told you NOT to tell ANYONE or they would die", and quickly hung up. As Jessica sat there looking at her phone, she had finally received the task in an email from the mysterious man. As she opened the email, she couldn’t believe what the task was. She tried to call the man back; however, the phone was disconnected. Jessica stared at the task, and quietly said out-loud " I have 24 hrs. to return the black book for $20,000 and my life.

Jessica still wondered why the names and pictures of the girls was in the book and knew that she had to put an end to the mysterious man and get revenge for her friend.

Jessica waited until the man called and asked him when and where should they meet. The man told Jessica that he wanted to meet at the community park at 9pm. He reminded Jessica not to tell anyone or else and hung up the phone. Jessica's time started now, and she knew she had to come up with a plan and fast. She decided that she was going to return the book, receive $20,000, and kill the mysterious man.

Jessica had gone all day at school coming up with the perfect plan. When she got home, she wrote a letter to her parents telling them everything that was going on and had told them to call the police and have them sent to the park around 8:45 pm. Jessica quickly grabbed the little black book, got into her car and was off to finish her plan. As she arrived at the meeting point, she could see the shape of a man standing under a tree. Jessica got out of her car and slowly approached the man.

When she got closer to the man Jessica said to him "Give me the money first then you’ll get your book." The mysterious man threw the bag of money at Jessica and said, "there! now give me my book or die!" Jessica slowly reached the book out in front of her. As the mysterious man reached out to grab the book Jessica looked at him and said, "You killed my best friend" as she pulled the gun from her back pocket and shot the masked man.

As he laid under the tree bleeding Jessica looked down at him and said, "Game over". As she pulled the mask off, she was shocked to see that it was her ex-Boyfriend Matthew. Jessica dropped the masked and shouted, "Why would you do this Matthew?!". Matthew looked up at Jessica, laughed, and slowly said "Because it's fun, and the book you're holding contains all the women I’ve dated then killed."

Suddenly, Jessica could hear the police sirens and knew that her parents had read her note. Jessica quickly stashed the cash in her bookbag and waited for the cops to show up. Once the police arrived, they had asked Jessica to step aside while they arrested Matthew. Once the investigation was finished, they had thanked Jessica for helping them capture the Most Wanted Serial Killer in Georgia and told her not to fear Matthew anymore.

After a few days went by Jessica was happy that everything was over. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to forget the little black book, or Destiny, but she knew time would heal all wounds. Late one Saturday night as Jessica sat in her room watching T.V, she received an unknown phone call. She thought it was strange since she had just changed her number; however, she picked up without any hesitation only to hear Matthew’s voice saying, "Ready for round 2?".
