They nearly killed each other's child

Two Florida men have been charged with attempted murder after opening fire after a road rage incident on October 8, 2022 and shooting each other's daughters.

According to the New York Post, William Hale, 35, and Frank Allison, 43, engaged in a "cat and mouse" game while driving down Highway 1 near Jacksonville. The two men apparently became so upset that they began firing firearms at one another while traveling with their young kids in the car.

Hale's five-year-old daughter was shot in the leg during the firefight, while Allison's fourteen-year-old daughter was struck in the back, resulting in a collapsed lung.

"What is more terrifying than a crazed motorist with a gun? Sheriff Bill Leeper of Nassau County stated, "Two crazed drivers with a pistol."

"Thank goodness, no one was killed in this incident, but it very easily could have happened because two individuals were acting foolishly and letting their tempers get the best of them."

Regarding Hale, a resident of Douglas, Georgia, and Allison, a resident of Callahan, Florida, the sheriff's office reportedly "got many 911 calls with claims of shots fired" Leeper reported that the two guys were "speeding" and "driving recklessly" while brake-checking each other by "going in front of each other and applying the brakes."

Hale was driving a black Dodge Ram pickup truck when he drew up next to Allison's gray Nissan Murano and began to yell. Then, Allison's wife Jessica made an offensive gesture toward Hale, and someone from Hale's truck responded by throwing a water bottle at Allison's vehicle.

Then, Allison grabbed his Sig Sauer.

"The suspect pulled out a 45-caliber semiautomatic handgun and fired one shot at the Dodge pickup before fleeing at an average rate of speed," Leeper stated. According to reports, Allison stated that he shot his revolver "to escape the situation."

The two men got down from their vehicles and started fighting

The bullet entered Hale's truck through the back door, where it struck the his daughter, who was just five years old at the time. After some time had passed, Hale revealed that he did not become aware that his child had been shot until he heard screaming coming from the back seat of the vehicle.

Leeper stated that in retaliation, Hale "began firing multiple shots from his Glock 43 9mm semi-automatic handgun out of the driver window."

Hale admittedly "fired all seven or eight rounds in the magazine," at least one of which flew through the Nissan's rear and wounded Allison's 14-year-old daughter in the back.

As reported by People, the two men continued their pursuit until they spotted a sheriff's truck on the side of the road, at which time they pulled over, exited their vehicles, and began fighting until a deputy could separate them.

The bodycam footage, shows Allison and Hale in the wake of the shooting as responders tend to their daughters’ wounds.

The clip, much of which is muted or bleeped out, shows Hale, shirtless, yelling and waving as police arrive and separate the fathers before an officer checks on Allison’s daughter.

The majority of the blurred and censored body camera footage shows Allison crouching close to his kid as she cries, "Ow! It hurts!" before asking a police officer tearfully, "Do I have to ride in an ambulance?"

William Hale released body cam footage of the incident.

Both males were arrested and charged with attempted murder in the second degree; they were later released on a $150,000 bond. Meanwhile, both youngsters were brought to the hospital. It is expected that they would survive their injuries.

Leeper stated of the incident, "Sometimes we observe people acting foolishly and committing foolish acts on the roads. They sometimes let their emotions get the best of them and do not consider the ramifications of their actions or the possible outcomes of their folly.

"Two adults' stupidity may have resulted in the deaths of two children," stated the sheriff.
