By Rare StoriesPublished 3 days ago Updated 3 days ago 3 min read

Jennifer Joyce Kesse was born in New Jersey on May 20, 1981. She attended Vivian Gaither High School in Tampa, Florida. Afterward, she proceeded to study finance at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. In 2003, she graduated and later proceeded to work as a finance manager at Central Florida Investments Timeshare Company in Ocoee.

Sadly, she vanished...

The Disappearance of Jennifer Joyce Kesse

On January 24, 2006, 24-year-old Jennifer Joyce Kesse vanished without a trace from her Orlando, Florida condo. Kesse, who had recently bought her own condo at Mosaic at Millenia was "over the moon" after returning from a weekend trip to Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands with her boyfriend, Rob Allen. Rob lived in Ft. Lauderdale – three hours away from Orlando where Jennifer lived.

After their trip, she stayed at Rob's place and went straight to work the following morning, January 23, without reaching her place. The last time anyone saw her alive was when she was leaving her place of work at around 6:00 pm. Spoke with her father on the phone about fifteen minutes after she left her place of work, and then hours later at 10:00 pm, she was on the phone with her boyfriend. This was the last time anyone heard from her.

The next morning, when Kesse failed to show up for work, her colleagues immediately reported her missing, as it was completely out of character for her not to call. Her parents Drew and Joyce Kesse rushed to her condo, finding everything seemingly undisturbed except for the absence of her phone, keys, and purse.

The Investigation Begins

Orlando police were called and launched an investigation. They found no signs of forced entry or struggle inside the condo. That evening, a gathering of Kesse's loved ones convened at her condo to begin a public search effort, distributing flyers with her photo.

Two days after her disappearance, Kesse's black 2006 Chevy Malibu was discovered in a parking lot about a mile from her condo.

Surveillance footage showed a figure parking her car and walking away, but the person's face was obscured. The surveillance footage shows an unidentified ‘person of interest’ dropping off Kesse’s vehicle around noon on the day she went missing. Neither her family nor friends recognized this individual, as their physical features were unclear in the video.

Unfortunately, the best video captures of the subject were obscured by complex fencing, with posts aligning to conceal their face. A journalist humorously dubbed the suspect ‘The luckiest person of interest ever.’ The FBI was called in to determine the person’s size and gender, but they could only estimate a height between 5’3” and 5’5". NASA also enhanced the video in an effort to identify the suspect but the identity remains unknown.

CCTV footage of the person who parked the car

Detectives ruled out robbery since valuables were left inside the car. A forensic examination of the car revealed minimal evidence—a latent print and a small DNA fiber. Investigators concluded that the car had been wiped down. Notably missing are her cell phone, iPod, keys, purse, briefcase, and the outfit she was wearing. Authorities were unable to track her cellphone, as it remained powered off, and her bank account keycard has not been used since her disappearance.

Her boyfriend, close relatives, coworkers, and her ex-boyfriend were all interrogated by the investigators and they were all cleared.

This was inside of Jennifer's condo on the day she went missing. The wet towel showed she had gone for work

The Kesse family relocated to Jennifer's condo to assist in the investigation. They informed police that Jennifer had been uncomfortable around certain construction workers who had been inside her condo the week before she vanished. Detective Joel Wright, the lead investigator, theorized that Kesse was abducted near her car after leaving for work.

Over the years, the investigation has yielded some leads but no definitive answers.

Jennifer Kesse has been missing for 18 years, 5 months, and 1 day(as of the time of writing this, July 4, 2024), and yet the image of her abductor has remained a mystery.
