The Last Call She Never Made

It was supposed to be an ordinary night.

Seventeen-year-old Alina had just finished dinner with her family. There was nothing unusual. No arguments, no signs of worry. She smiled, cleared her plate, and told her mother that she would quickly call a friend before going to bed.

That call was never made.

Around 9:40 PM, Alina was seen leaving the house. According to her younger brother, she said she needed a bit of "fresh air." She did not take her phone along. Nor did she wear a jacket. It seemed as if she would be back in a few minutes.

But she did not return.

When ten minutes turned into thirty, her mother began to worry. By midnight, the entire neighborhood was looking for her. Streets were checked, the nearby park was searched, and every possible place she could have gone was looked into.

No trace of her was found.

The next morning, the police were informed. Initially, it was considered a possible 'running away from home' case. This happens often when a young person goes out at night without informing anyone. But her family insisted that something was wrong.

Alina had never tried to run away from home. Her room was just as it had always been. All her belongings were there. Even her favorite shoes were placed near the door.

Two days after the disappearance, a nearby shopkeeper reported seeing a girl who resembled Alina. She was standing near a public phone booth and seemed somewhat confused. According to the shopkeeper, she wanted to make a call but kept hesitating.

The surprising thing was that the phone records at that booth showed no call made that night.

If she didn’t have a phone… then why couldn’t she make a call even after going there?

As the investigations progressed, more disturbing details came to light. One witness reported that around the same time, they saw a black car parked near the booth. Another person claimed to have heard a brief argument—but could not identify the voices.

No clear CCTV footage was available.

Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months.

The case started disappearing from the news, but not from the lives of the family.

“She was just about to make the call.”

No fingerprints, no return address. Just these four words.
