THE GREAT DETECTIVE

A man’s son once asked what makes a man great. Is it because of how much he has or how much he gives? Or is it by how many lives he touches throughout his life till the day he dies out of the goodness of his heart? Only a question a great man can answer.

Our story begins in modern-day Manhattan, New York. It follows the life of a young detective named Henry, unaware of his true lineage. A lineage that is beyond our known world. Henry strives to be the best man he can be. He spends his days trying to make Manhattan as safe as he can. Little did he know about his past as a child and that it would come knocking on his stable life eventually. One day an unexpected event happened that would change Henry’s life forever.

It was a beautiful spring night in the city of Manhattan, New York. As the clock strikes midnight, a young woman finishes her late-night shift at The Junction Sports Bar. After completing her cleaning, she grabs her things and says good night to her boss. She walks out the door into the warm moonlit night heading home after a long busy work day craving some well-deserved sleep.

The warm air feels good to her, and a light breeze blows on her face and through her dirty blonde hair. She heads north on Lexington Avenue towards the Beresford Apartments, where she lives with her parents. Halfway home, she feels like she is being followed. She stops in her tracks and looks around. Everything seems normal until she sees a suspicious man in a suit standing at the street corner of Lexington Avenue and East 41st Street. The man looks at her as she passes. She continues walking and looks back, and the man who started to walk toward her stops at a newspaper stand.

The woman is starting to feel nervous and continues to walk. She glances back, and the man has begun to follow her again, and his pace quickens, getting closer and closer to her. Now scared for her life, the woman starts running and glances back to see the man has also started to run. She starts sprinting, hoping to make it home as she notices home is only a block away. Seeing her apartment building, she smiles with relief that only lasts a second. As she passes by an alley, she is snatched by two men, also in suits, and dragged down to the end of a dark alleyway.

She tries to scream, but one of the men covers her mouth. When she looks up to see her attackers, her eyes widen as she recognizes who they are. They were the last customers of her shift, and they left a half-hour after The Junction was supposed to close. The men had gotten a bit drunk and were creepily flirty with her. One man tried to pull her on his lap drunkenly, and she had to pull away from him till he let her arm go. She had to be polite, but they wouldn’t leave till her boss had them removed and threatened to call the cops if they didn’t remove themselves from the premises. The men had waited an hour and a half for her to come by.

Two of the men held her down on the ground as she struggled to get free. The man who followed her came at her with a rag. He came towards her and knowing what was about to happen, the woman got her mouth free and let out a scream that echoed through the night, unable to disturb anyone.
