Amanda Dean disappeared in 2017

Earlier in the year, I interviewed Amanda Dean’s mother and sister for the Catch my Killer podcast (Episodes 168 & 169). The 42-year-old mother of four sons disappeared in 2017. Besides covering Amanda’s story for the podcast, I wanted to share her story with readers who might have information about her disappearance. In July 2017, Amanda’s mother Caroline Tokar, and sister Shannon Dean reported her missing to the Huron County Sheriff’s Department.

They were deeply concerned about Amanda. She disappeared from Huron County, Ohio, without a trace. She lived in Collins, Ohio, with her boyfriend. Aside from her mother and sisters, Amanda also left behind four sons. According to those who knew Amanda, she wouldn’t just leave without saying anything. Her family and friends remembered her as a fun-loving and kind woman.

The next day after reporting Amanda’s disappearance, Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin assured the family not to worry about Amanda. They found her and closed the missing persons case because she was in a safe place. After five and a half years, Sheriff Corbin admitted that he didn’t know anything about Amanda’s whereabouts in 2017 or even now. The family has tried to understand why Corbin would be untruthful about Amanda’s whereabouts.

In the meantime, here is what we know about Amanda: Despite her best efforts, she wasn’t successful with men. Originally from Florida, Amanda eventually relocated to Ohio. Between her time in Florida and Ohio, she moved to South Carolina. She had been in an abusive relationship and was supposed to testify against her abuser in South Carolina. She had planned to return to provide her testimony.

Unfortunately, she disappeared before doing so. Amanda lived in Collins, Ohio, where she became involved in another abusive relationship. Amanda’s family convinced her to leave the relationship. However, she was unable to leave before she disappeared. It has been over five years since Amanda has been seen or heard from.

There is no explanation for why Sheriff Corbin claimed to have conversed with Amanda but later admitted to having no idea where she was. Media outlets like the Sandusky Register have questioned Corbin for answers. But he has been tight-lipped about the case. Eventually, Corbin would turn the case over to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Amanda’s mother Caroline has not given up on finding her daughter. Amanda has spoken to the media and anyone willing to listen about Amanda’s disappearance. Furthermore, Caroline has publicly expressed disappointment that Sheriff Corbin will not provide her with answers about her daughter.

In the days leading up to Amanda’s disappearance, she sent her sister Shannon troubling texts in which she expressed her fear that her boyfriend would kill her. In the years since Amanda disappeared, she has become a grandmother. Her son Joshua now has 2 children. He says he misses his mother and that she doesn’t know she’s a grandmother.

The family has since learned that an anonymous caller called law enforcement and claimed Amanda’s boyfriend was involved in her disappearance. As of now, he has not been charged with any involvement in Amanda Dean’s disappearance.

If you want to know more about this case, there is much information about it on the Internet. There is a Facebook page called Help Find Amanda Dean and there is also a $10,000 reward for any information leading to Amanda’s whereabouts.

Amanda’s family is desperate to find her. Can you help them get answers? Please contact the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation if you know anything about this case.
