Jack Carter was a professional gambler who had a knack for reading people and winning big. He had learned the art of poker from his father, who was a legendary card shark in Las Vegas. He had inherited his father's charm, charisma, and confidence, as well as his gambling addiction. He had traveled the world, playing in the most exclusive casinos and making a fortune. He was always looking for a new challenge, a new thrill, a new game.

That's how he ended up in Monte Carlo, where he heard rumors of a mysterious underground poker tournament that only invited the best of the best. The stakes were astronomical, the rules were unknown, and the host was a shadowy figure who went by the name of Mr. X. Jack was intrigued. He had never backed down from a challenge, and he was curious about this mysterious game. He managed to get an invitation through one of his contacts, and he booked a flight to Monaco.

He arrived at the luxurious Hotel de Paris, where he was greeted by a man in a black suit and sunglasses. The man handed him a briefcase and told him to follow him. Jack opened the briefcase and saw stacks of cash, totaling one million euros. That was his buy-in for the tournament. He closed the briefcase and followed the man to a black limousine.

The limo drove him to a secluded mansion on the outskirts of the city. There, he was escorted to a large hall where he saw nine other players sitting around a circular table. They all looked nervous and excited. Jack recognized some of them as famous gamblers from around the world. He also noticed that they all had briefcases like his.

He took his seat at the table and waited for the host to arrive. He looked around and saw cameras and microphones everywhere. He wondered who was watching and listening to this game.

A voice boomed from the speakers. "Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the ultimate poker tournament. I am your host, Mr. X. You have been selected as the finest players in the world, and you have been given the opportunity to compete for the ultimate prize: ten million euros. But be warned: this is not a game for the faint of heart. This is a game of life and death."

The players gasped and looked at each other in shock.

"What do you mean by that?" one of them asked.

Mr. X continued. "This is how it works: you will play five rounds of Texas Hold'em poker. Each round, you will bet with your own money. The winner of each round will take all the money on the table. The loser of each round will be eliminated from the game... permanently."

A loud bang echoed in the hall as a trapdoor opened under one of the seats and a man fell screaming into a pit of fire.

The players jumped from their chairs and screamed in horror.

"That was an example," Mr. X said calmly. "That was one of my associates who volunteered to demonstrate what will happen to you if you lose. Now, please take your seats and let the game begin."

The players reluctantly sat back down, clutching their briefcases and trembling with fear.

Jack felt a surge of adrenaline and terror. He realized that this was no ordinary poker game. This was a deadly gamble. He had to win or die.

He looked at his opponents and tried to read their expressions. He wondered what their motives were for joining this game. Were they greedy? Desperate? Crazy? He also wondered who Mr. X was and what his motive was for organizing this game. Was he bored? Sadistic? Insane?

He decided that he had to find out more about Mr. X and his game before it was too late. He had to outsmart him and escape from this nightmare.

He also decided that he had to play his best poker ever.

He opened his briefcase and put his money on the table.

The first round began.
