This is the story of Kamonie Love Whiteside, a toddler who lived a short life filled with torture and pain at the hand of the one person in the world who should protect her -her mother.

  • 8-month-old Kamonie Love Whiteside was beaten to death by her mother
  • She said the infant was acting bad
  • Infants ribs had previously been broken
  • Shavone Whiteside sentenced to 20-years in prison

Paramedics responded to a 911 call reporting an unresponsive child from an Atlanta Microtel Inn on August 1, 2016. Unsure what they would see upon arrival, the paramedics' team certainly did not expect to find an 8-month-old baby beaten nearly to death.

Wilson Dials 911

On the 911 call, Edward Fair Wilson tells the dispatcher that the infant began making a gurgling noise so he and her mother walked into the room to check on her. Wilson said that he noticed something white in the baby’s throat so he suctioned it out using a suction-bulb syringe. Wilson said the baby then stopped breathing and Shavone attempted CPR as he dialed 911.

Paramedics Find Baby Near Death

As paramedics walked into the room, an overwhelming stench took their breath away. They stepped over trash that covered it from one end to the other. Two dogs run around in the mess.

They found a baby lying on the bed, each arm out to her side. Her eyes were open but she was unresponsive. Her body was black and blue, covered in bruises. It was obvious someone had beaten the baby.

Paramedics rushed the infant, Kamonie Love Whitehead, to a local hospital. Medical staff determined that her ribs had previously been broken and were in the healing stage. Kamonie also sustained a skull fracture. New and fresh bruised covered nearly every inch of her body.

She was placed on life support and died from her injuries two weeks later on August 13, 2016.

The Medical Examiner determined the death to be a homicide. Kamonie died from a Traumatic Brain Injury.

Police took Kamonie’s mother, Shavone whiteside, and her boyfriend, Edward Fair Wilson, to the station for interrogation. Whiteside initially denied harming the infant, but later confessed that she had spanked her with a belt because she was being bad.

Shavone Whitehead

Shavone pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and took a plea deal sentencing her to 20-years in prison. Shavone currently serves her time at the Pulaski Correctional Facility. She is eligible for release in 2031.

Edward Fair

Information about Wilson’s conviction is currently unavailable thanks to Georgia First Offender Law. His name does not appear in a Georgia Department of Corrections prison inmate search. Court records show Fair filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2020. That case is still pending.
