Suicide manslaughter

it's a real thing

I want to start this post off by saying I mean no disrespect to the family or friends of the victims of this nor do I mean any disrespect to the victims themselves. I also don't want to encourage someone to do this, you will go to jail for this. I just want to bring attention to this as an issue.

So let's define suicide manslaughter. It's when a person encouraging or aiding someone else to commit suicide. It could also be when someone drives someone else to suicide. The bullying someone to suicide usually happens among young people. As we will see in this article encouraging someone or aiding them in their suicide could and has happened with older people.

Recently there was news stories about people who talked someone into taking their own life. There was one case in 2014 in Australia where a 69 year old man was convicted of 2 crimes involving his 56 year old wife. The 2 crimes were counselling her to commit suicide, and aiding her to do so. He encouraged her several times to kill herself and drove her to the hardware store to get the supplies. The wife had suffered from depression, anxiety and back pain. The husband had been motivated by his wife's insurance pay out.

There was also a case before that in 1961 where a guy was convicted of involuntary manslaughter because he encouraged and helped her to commit suicide. He claims that his wife tried twice before but was too chicken so after he told her he wanted a divorce she threatened suicide. He then told her how to shoot herself with a shotgun they owned.

Another case that was actually in the news was a young lady who texted her boyfriend to encourage him and instruct him to commit suicide. He was in a car with a tube that went from his exhaust into his car through a window. When he got scared and had second thoughts he got out texting her saying he had second thoughts. She encouraged him to get back in and that it was working, he got back in and died. She was convicted in his death.

There was another case of a young woman who allegedly abused her boyfriend until he committed suicide. She also encouraged him to go kill himself. There was several text message on his phone where she told him to go kill himself or to go die. She was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

There's also case where people are bullied to the point where they commit suicide. In the cases of cyber bullying it is hard to convict people in the suicide or death of the victim mainly because names and locations can be faked. If it is done in person you could try to take the person or school to court and see what happens.

Some people who are in abusive relationships may attempt or commit suicide. In those case the person who was the abuser may not be able to be convicted, it just depends on the laws where the people live.

There was also the case of Dr. Kevorkian who was convicted of murder in 1999 after assisting over a hundred of his patients in their suicide. He defended his actions by saying that everyone has the right to death. The patients were also terminally ill. He was released on parole in 2007 0n the condition that he would not be involved in or present for any assisted suicide or similar procedure.

I know that this post is a little sad but I wanted to bring light to this issue. People think that if their loved one is going to do this any way there is nothing wrong with encouraging them along. As we saw in this article anyone can get in trouble for encouraging people in this matter.
