Reason First: Playboi Carti Arrested, COVID-19 Made Second Thought for the Time Being

Will more rappers get arrested now as the country focuses its attention on the novel coronavirus?

When it comes to rappers and gun and drug charges, they have the power to put a pandemic on the mind’s backburner, momentarily. Playboi Carti received charges for possessing controlled substances and firearms. This is the best news out right now. There’s no word of coughing and sneezing and trying to slice through red tape to get ventilators. This a routine and almost a running gag going on in the hip hop genre. Thankfully, Playboi Carti got stopped on weed, Xanax, and cocaine rather than coming down with COVID-19.

Most likely, Playboi Carti will be left with a slap on the face rather than wrist. He should get a wake up call to continue to make music and go on tours and find business deals. For now, however, he should be honored by anyone in the world and especially those most affected by the coronavirus.

His music should serve as a respite for the CEOs, medical directors, doctors, nurses, and other staff. Playboi Carti should be elevated to the status of a vaunted distraction to an extremely serious situation.

So, another hip hop star gets caught with drugs and weapons in his Lamborghini? How many print journalists will devote words to their sections? What tele-journalists will list Carti as a hero for his ability to divert attention from illness and death before a commercial break? Will bloggers, podcasters, and YouTube regulars venerate Playboi Carti for momentarily keeping minds off a dire situation?

Only the calendar will tell what path this virus will take. But for the instant, Carti has achieved the position of putting thoughts of a scary, potentially life-ending disease on ice. By focusing on his charges, Americans and those around the globe will be enabled to place their ideas on delving into his catalogue.

By discovering or re-discovering Carti’s music, people will be able to take their mind off of all of that pain. The codeine and oxycodone discovered by law enforcement should be sent to the Universal Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx, New York. These pieces related to a crime scene should instead be included in an exhibit detailing how Playboi Carti briefly permitted the populace to consider other things. He has the moment, now. He should use this time period to show how even as the United States and the world reels due to COVID-19, he can still be slowed down by the cops, as well. Police officers must still be praised for their efforts. In fact, the cops involved should be promoted. Who knows if Playboi Carti or his passenger Jaylen Malik Tucker could have carried the coronavirus? Those cops braved the situation and put Tucker in jail. With Carti’s release, he now has the opportunity to record songs related to this incident. He should seize this chance to demonstrate how he escaped the law for just a moment while his compatriot remained in police custody.

Playboi Carti’s arrest is like the dance craze sweeping TikTok inspired by Drake’s song “Toosie Slide.” It’s interesting and exciting only for a short time. But it is a diversion nonetheless. He should be aware that he will garner more plays, views, and attention due to this recent arrest. He should take this time period to show to young people on the come up that if you’re going to carry, traffic, or attempt to consume substances and tote weapons, you should do it, now. The country is mired down in spiking cases of coronavirus. They should get whatever it is that drives them to commit these types of crimes out of their systems now. Emergency crews have much bigger problems with which to concern themselves. This virus is serious but it may be squelched with a vaccine. That will then put news outlets on notice of these kinds of run-ins with the law. And who wants that?
