Raudha Athif never looked for fame, but a photo opened the doors to the world of fashion. Her beauty and hypnotic eyes gave her a precious place that took her in October 2016 to the cover of Vogue India magazine. That’s why her death in strange circumstances when she was about to turn 21 surprised the whole world.

Raudha Athif was born on May 18, 1996 in Malé, the capital of the Maldives, an archipelago located in the Indian Ocean.

Her father was Mohammed Athif, a doctor by profession and her mother Aminath Muharrimath, she was known because during her youth she was one of the most brilliant students in the Maldives.

Raudha’s childhood passed smoothly with her two brothers. Everyone said that she was a very studious girl and that she always got very good grades, which is why her parents were very proud of her. From a young age, she attracted attention for her light eyes that contrasted with her dark skin. Because of this, at the age of 14, she was chosen to participate in an advertising campaign in her country.

At the age of 18 he graduated from high school, and at that time she decided to take several professional photos. One of them went viral because of its hypnotic beauty, so Raudha began to be internationally famous.

From here she began to work as a model, and although this opened the doors of the world for her, she had other plans: she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and study medicine to help other people. It is important to mention that Raudha not only stood out for her beauty, she also did it for her intelligence.

Just when she became acquainted, she got a scholarship to study medicine at a private university in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The young woman packed her bags and moved there to start her new life.

Rauhda lived in one of the women’s dormitories at the university and shared a room with Seerat Parveen who soon became her best friend.

In Balgadesh, 90 percent of the population is Muslim and although this was Raudha’s religion, she almost always dressed as a Western one, something that was not very well seen in the country.

In October 2016 and at the age of only 20, she was the cover of Vogue India magazine, which is why she was highly criticized, and many thought it was inappropriate for a girl of her religion.

Despite all this, Raudha was happy with her life, and this happiness increased when 4 months before the events she started dating a boy. But not only that, the young woman had plans for the future since her idea was to finish that year at the university of Bangladesh and then move to Australia to continue her studies and be closer to her family. Unfortunately, this never happened.

The facts:

On March 29, 2017, that is, a year and a half after arriving in Bangladesh, Seerat, the roommate, made a terrible discovery... Inside the room she found Raudha’s body lifeless.

According to his version, he knocked on the door but received no response. Then he found that it was closed inside so he had no choice but to force it to be able to enter.

Once there, she found her friend hanging with a silk scarf around her neck on the ceiling fan. At that moment he took off her body and put it on the bed.

The young woman immediately called the authorities, but before the arrival of the agents, the security guard of the building and other students entered the room, contaminating the scene completely.

Even so, when the agents arrived they were able to observe several things:

The first was that in the room there was a frying pan with freshly made food and a cup of tea intact. And another thing they found was the broken glass of a mirror. It seemed that Raudha had been violently surprised in the middle of her daily tasks.

The autopsy was performed in the hospital that was right next to the university without the permission or knowledge of the parents and it revealed that the young woman had taken her own life.

According to the police theory, the reason was that she had discovered that her boyfriend was cheating on her with another girl. Although it is not known where they got this information because it could never be verified.

Mohammed Athif, his father who was also a doctor when examining the reports they presented to him, found so many contradictions that he ended up rejecting this possibility.

What caught her attention the most was that the roommate said that she had forced the door because it was closed inside, however during the inspection they found no signs that it had been opened by force.

On the other hand, when checking the roof fan, they saw that it was so weak that it would have been difficult for it to withstand the weight of a 55kg person without breaking. However, what surprised Mohammed the most were the photos of his daughter’s autopsy.

For him, the marks on her neck did not match those of her silk scarf, rather it looked like a straight mark, like that of a belt. You could even see the buckle and finger marks.

Stranger things:

A few days after Rauda’s death, another strange event happened, and that is that her Instagram account was reactivated, perhaps by someone who knew her password.

The person who agreed stopped following two of her contacts: one of them was Seerat, a friend and roommate who also found her lifeless.

Soon the account was deleted forever... also by someone unknown.

From here, Moahhame denounced Seerat as a possible author of his daughter’s death and asked for a review of the case.

For him, the most likely reasons were jealousy or a possible link with Islamic fundamentalism. And the latter has a reason.

Coincidentally, a week before the events, the police made a search at the university and arrested 29 students and professors, all male for links to certain organizations. Maybe Seerat was linked to some of them.

Due to Mohammed’s complaint, the local police were replaced by the Bangladesh criminal investigation team, an equivalent of the FBI.

This team ordered the exhumation of Raudha’s body to perform a second autopsy... But to everyone’s surprise they determined again that the young woman had taken her own life.

When Mohammed told them about the mark of the buckle on the neck, they said that it was a birthmark.

To this day, the death of Raudha Athif remains a mystery, and unfortunately it is not an isolated event: two models of the country died in similar circumstances and others have had to flee when they were threatened.
