Prime Crime: Miami Bottle Girl Murdered by Mystery Delivery Driver

Jealousy and envy mixed up can lead to one hell of a display. Such emotions played out almost four years ago in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Florida. Kayla Hodgson had been found severely wounded in her apartment after an assailant dressed up like a food deliverer mortally slashed the young woman. Authorities ruled her death a homicide and the investigation went on from there.

Prosecutor Tonya Johnson collected all of the evidence and made sure that this would be a speedy trial. But before all of that, Kayla’s lifestyle showed her to be a sweet faced doll who actually participated as a Bar Doll, a bottle server at a club.

This precipitated the venom in her attacker that could not be quelled. In these “situationships” where people aren’t really girlfriend and boyfriend but still “mess around” like with V Robinson, that’s when things got dicey. He actually found her in a significant amount of lost blood.

Fortunately, for the prosecution, he provided details, the women who knew both the killer, Sakiya Thompson, and Kayla provided details, even her dog Dior served as a furry piece of evidence for the jury.

With all of this crashing on Sakiya’s head, that same jury found her guilty of murder in the first degree with a punishment of life in prison with no possibility for parole.

Now, let’s get to the morality of all this. This occurrence played out like an episode of a mashup between Love and Hip Hop and CSI. The emotions that ran high only showed that when cognition is put on the back burner, only evil can win. Only when ethics and virtues are forsaken in an individual and emotions come to the forefront, that is when all structures of morality falter and fail.

The truth is that Kayla gasped her last breath because of irrationality. Blood soaked into her carpet all because this miscreant couldn’t control her sentiments. Once she held onto the belief that it would be better to just murder this young woman, the plan had been fixed in her mind. Instead of reasoning and talking through the situation, it could almost be certain she didn’t set out expecting to never see the light of day outside of prison walls or in police custody.

Of all the ways she could have just mentioned how she felt wronged by the entire situation, she chose to become the lowest of the low and commit a heinous crime. Again, thanks to actual data and not circumstantial evidence, jurors took just an hour to convict Thompson of homicide. Camera footage, testimonies from friends and family, and social media presence all contributed to the effort in bringing down Thompson.

Law and Crime makes mention of the amount of blood lost on numerous occasions. This is to ensure the viewer knows the horrific nature of Kayla's death. If no one had been there to speak on her behalf; if no one had been there to show how she had lived and desired the best out of life, Thompson might still be walking freely. Law enforcement coordinated a devastatingly precise effort to keep her off the streets and the jurors just picked the right one with the right punishment.

Kayla had a life. She seemed to be that pretty ray of sunshine in the lives of those who knew her best. The Prime Crime documentary shows this in exact detail. From her cousin kneeling down on the pavement sobbing with sincerity to Robinson’s testimony that he discovered her but had nothing to do with her death.

All of this boils down to the reality of the crimes that happen based on what someone feels instead of what they should have thought. Thompson had every opportunity to be a stand up citizen and converse and explain and voice her frustrations. A glass hookah shard should not have been in the picture whatsoever. For Kayla to be slashed to death, that is the point that tugs at the soul. Officers instructed the family to not even see their loved one in the condition she had been put in because of the ghastly way that Thompson dispatched her.

For Kayla’s memory to be in full force, it should be said she fought and died as a beautiful example of what a human should be.
