Personality Analysis of Johan from the Anime Monster

If you have already watched the anime Monster, then this article is for you. But if you haven't watched it yet, then watch it immediately and don't waste another day without Watching it, and then come back to read this article.

Monster Anmie

The Monster anime is considered one of the deep philosophical anime that carries many questions and emotions. It makes you excited, sad, amazed, and feel like you're inside it, and that's what attracted me to watch it. I was deeply influenced by every character in it, especially the character of Johan and Dr. Tenma, although the two characters are completely different. Dr. Tenma is mentally reconciled and all he seeks is to treat the pains that humans feel, whether psychological or physical. However, Johan wanted to erase all humans and anyone who knows his name so that no one else remains in the world, and his goal is to die without leaving any evidence of his existence.

Johan holds The Book 'Nameless Monster' it's a real book you can Find it by searching.

Johan used to read a book called 'Nameless Monster' when he was young. Its story was about a monster that traveled from place to place, eating everyone it encountered and talking to it to take their names. In the end, no one was left in the world to call it by its name, as it had eaten everyone it had encountered before.

Johan Liebert

Johan is a calm person who appears introverted and doesn't speak much. He is an incredibly intelligent person, even a genius, who can manipulate everyone around him without any effort. He has extensive knowledge of law and economics to the point that he almost took over the entire economy of Europe. He is nicknamed several names, including 'the monster' and 'the devil,' and some have even compared him to Hitler. So, what happened to him to become so emotionally numb?

Johan asked his sister Nina to kill him

Johan had a very traumatic childhood. His mother left him after his father died, and he had a twin sister named Nina. The twins were separated, and each went to a different orphanage. Johan joined the "Kinderheim 511" orphanage, which was a terrifying place that everyone feared from. At that time, horrible experiments were conducted on children there, and the goal was to create powerful soldiers who were invincible and had no emotions, feelings, or even memories. and Johan tried hard not to erase his sister from his memories and to keep her in his mind. Later, kind adoptive parents adopted both Johan and his sister Nina, but when Johan felt threatened by them and thought they might return him to the experiment, he killed them and asked his sister to kill him so that she would remain immortalized in his memories forever. She shot him, but Dr. Tenma saved him at the last moment, and then Johan decided that he would kill everyone who knew him and that he would live nameless in the end.

Johan is sitting on the manager's chair watching others fight.

Returning to the Kinderheim 511 orphanage, after the death of the supervisor Manager who Manage the experiment, all the children in the orphanage coveted the supervisor's chair, and each of them fought over it. Imagine that instead of children fighting over a toy, they were fighting for the manager's position! All Johan could do was to add fuel to the fire and watch from a distance while sitting on the supervisor's chair. After this incident, no child was left alive except Johan himself.

Johan's memories intertwined with memories of his sister Nina.

After Johan entered the experiment, his memories became mixed up and some of them buried, to the point where he couldn't remember a large part of his life. He only remembered the painful aspects of it. His memories also became intertwined with those of his sister Nina when she told him about the incident at the Rose Palace (when Franz, the owner of the experiment, gathered everyone who worked for the experiment in his Palace and poisoned them all, putting the most poison in the alcohol so that no one would remain aware of the experiment. He loved the twins and wanted them to live a happy life and keep Johan away from the experiments. He regretted conducting the experiment in the first place). Nina was present at the Palace when she saw all the guests dying one after the other, and she returned terrified to the Room where Johan was sleeping. She told him about what happened, but Johan thought he was the one who witnessed the incident, not his sister.

Johan asked DR.Tenma to kill him.

After all the harm, tension, and immense pressure Johan experienced as a child, he became the monster that everyone feared. He killed everyone who knew him and anyone who knew anything about the experiment. After finishing them all, he wanted Dr. Tenma to kill him by threatening to put a gun to the head of the child Diter. But Diter's father aimed the gun at Johan, and finally, Johan thought that he had achieved what he wanted, which was to die. However, this did not happen as Dr. Tenma saved him again, and he remained alive. Dr. Tenma told him that his name is Johan and that his sister loves him, and so did his mother. At this point, all anime viewers were puzzled by the last scene, where Johan was not in the hospital room, and the window was open. There are two possible scenarios: either Johan wanted to take one last risk with his life, as he used to play the suicide game, and if he survived, it meant that he deserved to live. The second scenario is that Johan wanted to continue his journey and kill many more people and escape from the hospital to live nameless. You can choose the scenario you prefer.

Johan is confronting Dr. Tenma.

Finally, many people wonder about Johan's personality, and some compare him to Hitler. I can confirm that Johan was greatly influenced by nihilistic philosophy, where he saw everything as meaningless, and values and morals meant nothing. He believed that human existence did not add anything to life, and that death, killing, and harming others were not sins but natural things in this world, where everything is permitted. This is all due to psychological reasons that he went through, rather than being a purely intellectual choice. Since he was a child, he witnessed everyone killing and dying in front of him, where he saw many endings that felt like the end of the world for him. In addition to the experiments conducted on him, he felt that this was normal as everything is permitted and values have no basis.

The last scene in the anime is a hospital bed without Johan on it.

And with that, we have reached the end of our article, and I hope you enjoyed it. I am curious to know which ending you believed in. did Johan escape or commit suicide? You can share your opinions in the comments below.
