Not A Popular Observation Yet It Is An Accurate Assessment Of the Facts

Who Benefitted From Teresa Halbach Disappearing After Leaving Steven Avery's Property?

While it is extremely difficult to present a alternative suspect with supporting evidence due to the intentional lack of any victimology or retrieval of text messages from all and even phone records from many I will present a theory from the truth seeking side of the fence for discussion. As I think all in the Making a Murderer community are aware the only people who have benefitted from the disappearance and death of Teresa Halbach are the individuals who would have been negatively impacted by Steven Avery's civil suit depositions and the case as a whole continuing. There is a strong desire by the small subset who preach Steven and Brendan's guilt to diminish the impact the depositions and the lawsuit was having in the state of Wisconsin and especially in Manitowoc County. For those who may not be informed about liability and Manitowoc's very limited insurance coverage in 1985 when the intentional arrest and eventual conviction occurred there were only two insurance policies. (This has since been rectified and there are now many policies in place for the next lawsuit). There is a great OP on Reddit titled Ignore The Man Behind The Curtain with sources explaining the dire insurance issues facing Manitowoc County at the time Steven's civil suit was filed.

Now the civil suit depositions that were taking place were establishing and putting on the record some very damning information about Manitowoc County, Sheriff Tom Kocourek and former District Attorney Denis Vogel. Both men clearly knew of Gregory Allen and all of his disturbing escalating sexual crimes that had occurred prior to Penny's assault. In fact not only had Allen attacked a woman on the same stretch of beach Penny was assaulted on a year and a half prior he also had attacked another woman just two weeks before the Penny assault. He was actively under surveillance by the Manitowoc Police department at the time of Penny's assault and the attempt by former Manitowoc County Sheriff Tom Kocourek at denying knowledge of these events is absurd. He was the sheriff and he knew about all violent crimes in his county, The depositions had also established that several people had went to both Kocourek and Vogel and mentioned to them on multiple occasions that Gregory Allen not Steven Avery would have committed a crime like the one committed against Penny B. Both men refused to acknowledge these people and Denis Vogel actually went as far as to lie to co-workers and said that he had spoken to Allen's probation officer and verified he was not in Manitowoc that day-well Allen was not on probation in July of 1985.

October was a really bad month for Kocourek and Vogel in the depositions. James Lenk as well as Andrew Colborn, Sheriff Ken Petersen and Gene "The Pencil" Kusche were all deposed. Kusche was deposed on the 26th of October just FIVE DAYS before Teresa disappeared and coincidentally the same day that out of nowhere a warrant for Jodi S was signed by Judge Willis which prevented her from being eligible for the Manitowoc County Jail Huber program. This meant that she could no longer leave for AA meetings and no longer qualified for work release. This would have given Steven an irrefutable alibi as he was her ride to outside events..

I said all that to say this. I feel that the most likely suspect is either someone hired by one of (or a small group of) these men or one of these men themselves. If you do not feel guilt for stealing an innocent person's freedom or a child's life and freedom then you likely do not feel much of anything at all for anyone. Human beings employed as police officers, district attorneys and judges have committed felony crimes for far less. The state of Wisconsin would not want to advertise that a woman had been murdered by a member of the law enforcement (or District attorneys office) of the same county that they had recently reported had done nothing (wtf) wrong in the 1985 case. The optics and fallout from that would be far reaching and financially burdensome. It is possible that someone not tasked to derail the civil suit just so happened to stumble upon or target Teresa not long after she left the Avery property with no clue of the civil suit and did Manitowoc County the biggest favor ever by killing her but I sincerely doubt that this is the case.

The odds of that happening are about the same as Governor Evers doing the right thing and pardoning Brendan and Steven.
