Summary of The United States VS Billie Holliday by Hulu

Billie Holiday spent much of her career being adored by her fans. In the 1940’s the government targeted Ms. Holiday in a growing effort to racialize the war on drugs, ultimately aiming to stop her from singing her controversial ballad, ‘’ Strange fruit”.

I give The United States VS Billie Holiday five stars, Suzan-Lori Parks and Lee Daniels did an amazing job telling Ms. Holidays story. I have seen Lady Sings The Blues . This film really brought Billie’s life and struggle to life.

When I watched Lady Sings The Blues my understanding at the time was Billie was a prostitute/drug user turned singer. Now, I understand why Billie used drugs. In 1925 when Elenora aka Billie was ten years old her Mother made her start prostituting and she was rapped by a trick, when ever she was in a relationship the man of choice was abusive and because she sang Strange Fruit The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested while performing the song , now Ms, Holiday was a target of The Federal Bureau of Investigation, all these traumas caused the singer to use Heroin.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation stated this is a War on drugs, but in the next breath stated that Ms. Holiday is insisting on a racial war. To be quite honest these racist Europeans also known as Peckerwoods are upset because a African woman is calling out racial injustices of The African People . The definition of a peckerwood is -rural white southerner, usually poor, uneducated or otherwise ignorant and bigoted. This term was meant as a derogatory term to the European.

Jimmy Fletcher pretends a military personnel just released, at first Billie’s team would not allow him to see her and he continues to persue Billie and it works she gives him a signed record; and he says ,” I love your song Strange fruit.”

The next day or the next few days Jimmy and the F.B.I. arrest Joe Guy and Billie at a hotel because of drug possession, at that moment Billie knew she was being set up and being watched by The Federal Bureau of Investigation . Billie told Jimmy,” They are using you when and when they get what they want you are no good to them .”

Jimmy’s job was to report to The Commissioner whenever Miss Holiday used Heroin, so while Billie toured Mister Fletcher followed , and one time Mister Fletcher used Heroin, after that experience Jimmy truly understood Miss Holiday and was upset with himself being a certified snitch!

Once The Federal Bureau of Investigation knew Miss Holiday was not doing drugs anymore The Commissioner took Jimmy Fletcher off The case against Miss Holiday, and threatened to imprison Mister Fletcher! Before Jimmy was taken off the case he told his co-workers the following, “ You are just upset that Billie Holiday is successful and rich, even though she has been through it she still made it and you are mad she is a successful black woman.”

Billie is and was a brave woman to sing Strange fruit, she did not give two fucks that this song upset these white folks!!!!

While Miss Billie Holiday is in the bed dying of cirrhosis she tells The commissioner ,” You bitches ain’t got shit on me! Your grandchild will sing Strange fruit.’’ As Billie is dying The commissioner has Miss Holiday’s feet cuffed to the hospital bed and lied and said she had heroin on her, this is complete bullshit, before Billie passed she was clean of drug use, my theory is them racist European’s mixed something in the heroin Billy was using and it killed her slowly.

It’s 2021 and it’s sad my people still have to yell,” BLACK LIVES MATTER!” Why do we the African people have to tell some of you Europeans how to treat us, y’all racist are threatened by our skin tone?!! We should be suspicious of y’all for centuries you racist have killed us, beats us, sold our family, raped us, stole from us and so much more. Yet we are the most copied race of people on this planet, the most hated people on the planet!!!
