Motta Navas, a psychopathic serial killer, terrorized the city of Kollam, Kerala, between June and August of 2012. His preferred targets were pavement dwellers, whom he would brutally kill in their sleep during his early morning walks.

Early life and criminal history

Motta Navas was born in 1966 in Kollam, India. He had a history of drug addiction and would often go to sleep early, around 8 p.m. His modus operandi was to wake up in the middle of the night and roam through the city looking for potential victims. He began his criminal career in 1996, when he committed his first murder. He would go on to commit a total of seven murders.

The First Two Murders

Motta Navas was suspected of committing his first murder in 1996, when a man named Rajasekaran was found dead. The victim was around 65 years old and was sleeping under a flyover when he was hit with a huge stone. Navas was arrested but was later acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

The second murder was committed in 2007, a decade after the first. A man named Shamir was killed, and Navas was arrested but later acquitted after four years.

The next five murders

The first murder on the list of serial killings took place in the first week of June 2012. Astonishingly, the next murder was committed the very next day after the first, on the veranda of a shop. Here, a man named Appukuttan Achary was hit in the nape of his neck, causing injury to his spine and, eventually, death. The third murder was 11 days after the previous one, under the same flyover. A man named Bondan Kumar, aged around 65 years, was hit on the head with a stone. The fourth murder in this series was of a man named Thankappan, aged 55 and a native of Sasthamcotta, who lay dead on a bus waiting stand, where he was sleeping when attacked. The fifth attack was on a man named Sudarshan, aged 45, on the veranda of a municipal building, where he received a fatal blow to the head with a stone.

The serial killings

Motta Navas went on a killing spree in June 2012, starting with the murder of Appukuttan Achary. The victim was hit in the nape of his neck, causing injury to his spine and eventually leading to his death. The very next day, Navas committed another murder on the veranda of a shop.

The third murder occurred 11 days after the previous one, under the same flyover where Navas had committed his first murder. Bondan Kumar, around 65 years old, was hit on the head with a stone and died.

The fourth murder was that of Thankappan, a 55-year-old native of Sasthamcotta. He was sleeping at a bus stand when Navas attacked him. The fifth murder was committed on the veranda of a municipal building, where Sudarshan, aged 45, received a fatal blow to the head with a stone.

Two other attempts to murder were made during this killing spree, but fortunately, the victims managed to escape with injuries.

Arrest, conviction, and trial

Motta Navas had already been arrested twice in the past for being a suspect in murders, but he was acquitted in both cases due to a lack of evidence and witnesses. He was finally arrested again in 2012 and is currently in police custody awaiting trial.

Punishment for crimes committed

Motta Navas was charged with several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (punishment for murder), Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide), and Section 449 (house trespass in order to commit an offense punishable with death).

Conclusion

Motta Navas's killing spree sent shockwaves throughout the city of Kollam. His brutal and callous murders of innocent people were the result of his psychopathic tendencies and drug addiction. Although he has been arrested and is awaiting trial, his crimes will never be forgotten by the victims' families and the people of Kollam.
