CHAPTER TWELVE

The next day they arrived at Dabolim Airport. After completing all the necessary clearance, during which they had no unfortunate meetings as in case of Russia. After they stepped outside the airport, they hired a cab and Jason told the driver the directions to his old friends place.

The driver dropped them off in front of a huge slum area. It was a huge cluster of buildings shaped into an approximate circle. There were men and women thronging the streets going about their everyday businesses. The already crowded streets were also filled with all sorts of stalls that you can imagine.

“So… may I ask where we are going?” asked Jane.

“Well, I have an old friend here, that is, assuming he still lives here.” He signaled a man nearby. “Excuse me does Lazar still live here?”

The man replied in some language, which was probably Hindi but in a different variant, as Jason wasn’t able to interpret it. As part of his job, he had been trained to understand and speak in 25 different, languages which included Hindi.

“You get any of that?” asked Jason to Jane.

“Nope, I mean I know about 20 languages or so but never heard this one. Let’s just walk maybe by some chance we might meet your friend,” replied Jane.

That’s was possible, thought Jason. And so they walked, they walked for about ten minutes until someone tapped his

shoulder and said, “Follow me!” It was a tall young man probably in his thirties.

Jane was surprised at this and her shock amused Jason who apparently had expected it. “Don’t worry! This was how I meet Lazar the first time. He’s got too many enemies so…,” Jason trailed off.

“Oh!” was only Jane’s reply. They followed this man for another fifteen minutes passing through various alleys with people doing various activities from washing dishes to bathing. Jason heard Jane wince.

She asked, “How do people live in such an environment?”

“The thing is even small things make these people happy. They are survivors, they make through the toughest of all times,” said the man who was leading them.

They soon entered an old home and was brought in front of the man himself, Lazar. He was short man with nothing threatening and dangerous about him on first look. Jane couldn’t possibly imagine why this man has enemies to worry about.

“Hey old buddy! How are you?” he said.

“Hey, Lazar. Good to see you, man,” came Jason’s reply.

“Where were you? The last I heard about you was…about a week ago, your buddy, John declared you and your girlfriend as fugitives in America. At that moment itself I knew something was off.”

Jason didn’t bother correcting Lazar about Jane being his girlfriend.

“John?” asked Jason.

“Ya, man and now he is working with the Exousia, I thought you guys hated them,” replied Lazar.

Jason sighed. He and Jane explained to him about their past few days and also the reason why they are in Goa. Lazar listened intently. Finally, Lazar cursed.

“Man that guy. The guts he’s has got to cheat you. So, wait you want my help to get the biggest criminal in the world?” Lazar asked.

“Sort of...” said Jason.

“Guess what bro…. I have been planning the same thing.”

They spent that evening planning and planning on how to capture Alfred. Luckily, Lazar had eyes and ears everywhere. And by the next day, they were ready to capture the Exousia leader.
