CHAPTER NINE

When Jane heard the name, a chill went down her spine but she didn’t show it. She looked at Jason and he looked back. There weren’t many options here. They could fight or….they could die!

Well, unfortunately Jane wasn’t in a mood to die. She smiled and nodded at Jason. Jason smiled back as if to say I like your style. He thought for moment there were four around him excluding Pavel, but there were about eight to ten more outside, if they reacted now they were sure to draw their attention. However, they had no choice.

Pavel spoke up, “Since you haven’t got anything to say, I guess we will end it here. Usually I let my victims plead, alas, unfortunately, I am on a schedule today. ”

He picked up his gun and Jane reacted. She slammed her head on to the guy behind him and punched the other in front. Jason did the same but instead of punching, he kicked the man in front in his guts. Pavel was unable to shoot them in the chaos and shot one of his guards accidently. Jason and Jane grabbed the men’s guns and fired at Pavel while finding cover from his shots. Suddenly they heard voices on the other side of the room, both of them glanced back, and they saw pounding on the other side of the door. When Jason turned back, Pavel was gone!

Jason cursed, “This is the third time that he slipped from my fingers.”

“Sounds like a really slippery guy,” replied Jane.

“Tell me about it. I was hoping to get some information from her.”

“Don’t worry I don’t think we are done here.”

And with that the door on the other side burst open with the men shouting words in Russian that probably meant ‘kill them’, thought Jason.

He was only able to shout, “Take cover!” before they started firing. Both of them dived for cover as the bullets whizzed pass them. Jason looked around for possible escape. None. The only way was to stand up and fight. He also wasn’t ready to give up on Pavel. He assessed that there were eight people and started firing. Jane was an impressive shooter. She like Jason used her right hand and could easily ascertain her opponent’s position from her opponent’s bullets. But unlike Jason who usually injured his opponents, she went for the kill.

When they were done, Jason said, “Wow! You are a pretty good shooter.”

“Thanks, I guess.”

“But unfortunately your fight is not over”, they turned to see Pavel holding a gun the size of a Christmas tree. It was jet black and it looked like it weighed a thousand pounds. Jason knew right away, what it was.

"Oh My God! Isn’t that ….”

Jane completed for her, “M61 Vulcan.”

“Yup!” replied Pavel, “Dad got it for my last birthday, never tested it out.” And with that, he started firing.

They escaped the flying bullets by mere inches. They had no hope against this. They had to continue to take cover until something happens. But they couldn’t hide forever. He looked at Jane who just like him had difficulty in trying to glance at their opponent. She nodded enquiringly as if to ask ‘what’s the plan?’

Even when they were in a life and death situation Jason couldn’t stopped admiring her beauty. He snapped out of it and told himself to concentrate. By the strength of the bullets on his cover, he could tell that Pavel was getting closer. Suddenly Jason had an idea. He signaled his idea to Jane and smiled. He only hoped that she understood him. He waited for a minute, he could feel Pavel getting closer. Then, it all stopped, Jason smiled, out of the many disadvantages of the gun one of them was that it heated up quickly.

Jane quickly slipped out of her cover and shot Pavel on his leg while Jason took care out his arm. They had made sure not to kill him, yet, as they needed information from him. Pavel dropped the gun and fell on his knees, shouting in pain. Jason slammed him on to a pillar and said, “Ok, start talking! What do you know about John Samerio?”
