It has been 20 years since eighteen-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared from her senior class trip. Now, after 20 years, suspect Joran van der Sloot has finally confessed the shocking truth about what happened to Natalee that has put him behind bars and an end to this tragedy.

It was May 26, 2005, when high school graduate Natalee Holloway and 124 fellow graduates of Mountain Brook High School arrived at Aruba for a senior class trip before heading to college. Throughout the five-day trip, students were engaging in wild partying, a lot of drinking, and lots of room switching every night.

Monday, May 30, 2005

Natalee and her friends who were with her on the trip were having dinner at Carlos N Charlie's in Oranjestad. At the bar, she met then-seventeen-year-old Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch student living in Aruba. The two start to talk and drink shots until Holloway and her friends get drunk. At 1:30 a.m., intoxicated Holloway leaves the bar and goes in the car with Deepak and Satish Kalpoe (brothers). Natalee's friends witness Holloway in the car leaving with van der Sloot and his friends.

She screams:

"Aruba!!!"

With excitement, it was the last time they had seen Holloway alive. The next day, just when the students were about to leave, students, chaperones, and Natalee's friends noticed that Holloway hadn't returned to the hotel since that night. Natalee's family booked the flight to Aruba to find Natalee. Her disappearance gained widespread attention from all over the world. Authorities have gone on a search to find Holloway. The police showed Beth and her family the surveillance footage of Natalee at the place where she was last seen. The authorities tell Beth about Van Der Sloot since told them that they witnessed Natalee in the car with him.

Beth questioned van der Sloot but denied that he had anything to do with Natalee's "disappearance". Van der Sloot became the main suspect in Natalee's disappearance but no leads or any evidence on Natalee's disappearance so the Judge had no choice but to release van der Sloot leaving no justice for Natalee. Things in Aruba didn't go so well after Natalee's disappearance, people in Aruba were sick of the media taking over the territory even threatening her family. Van Der Sloot was not charged for her disappearance but her family never gave up hope to find Natalee.

In 2012, Holloway was declared dead with no trace of her remains.

20 years later, Van Der Sloot makes a stunning confession on what happened to Natalee. According to his October confession, Van Der Sloot shared a grisly account of the teen's final moments. He admitted that he crushed her head with a cinderblock and dragged her to the ocean when she refused his sexual advances on an Aruba beach. After he realizes what he has done, van der Sloot carries Holloway's body and dumps her into the sea.

“It’s over. Joran van der Sloot is no longer the suspect in my daughter’s murder. He is the killer."

Beth Holloway, Natalee's mother.

However, though van der Sloot confessed to the murder, he won’t face prosecution for the killing, as the 12-year statute of limitations for homicide in Aruba has long passed, and the US, which has no statute of limitations for homicide, does not have jurisdiction over the criminal investigation in the Caribbean island nation. Van der Sloot will serve his 20-year prison sentence for extortion and wire fraud concurrently with the 28-year sentence he’s already serving in Peru for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores, a Peruvian woman. Officials in Peru allowed his temporary release to the US in June to face the extortion and wire fraud charges. Now after 20 years Natalee's families and friends are relived to know the truth and hopefully will move on.
