Jussie Smollett had lost his livelihood when he was fired in 2020 from his hit TV show, Empire. That was long before a jury found him guilty on five of six charges, including lying to police. He’d lied and invented a hoax about how he’d been attacked by two white men one night in Chicago, in 2019. The truth was, he’d paid two Nigerian black men to help him stage the attack, likely for publicity.

Some had speculated that Jussie was “cruising” for male companionship in the wee hours of the night, but court documents confirm that Smollett dreamt it all up. From the noose, to racial slurs, his dishonest mind led to thousands of hours of police work, and unnecessary media attention, when those same cops could have been out fighting real crime.

The serious nature of this case has been diminished because it is so bizarre. It has hampered the conduct and process of the law in the end. Smollett will find himself in a cell.

His blatant disregard for the law will make him the poster-child, for people seeking fame and status using hoax hate-crimes.

While he plans to appeal, Smollett has already done irreparable damage. He ought to be “canceled” before anyone else gets a chance to say he should be redeemed. What he did was incomprehensibly evil. His claim that he had been attacked by racist, homophobic white men will call into question future, actual cases of racism and homophobia.

His acting career is also likely over; who will want to work with such a public disgrace? But as he spends his time behind the wall, he’ll have plenty of hours to teach fellow inmates the principles of acting. He could set up workshops on classic, Shakespearean acting, and Method acting. Perhaps his efforts on the small screen can serve as inspiration to the men who will taste freedom as he’s just breaking in his prison mattress? Smollett is a disgusting human being for lying. If we were a cruel, racist, homophobic nation, he would be punished with more force, and only be given provisions to satisfy his basic needs. Instead he’ll have heat in the winter, and air conditioning in the summer. He’ll probably be allowed Internet access, and have a full commissary. He’ll be able to read books, and chit chat about reading scripts and hobnobbing with Hollywood stars.

When the truth must be found amongst a heap of falsehoods, it decays like a dying plant, wasting away in a hot summer wind. Smollett will always be the example of the wrongheaded, backwards liar who could not be further from ethics, morals, virtues, and values.

Any attempt to make a comeback in the industry once he’s released should be met with scorn and utter resistance. He should be barred and sent away, despite his catalog in the business.

What he should focus on now is preventing other up-and-comers from becoming liars, too. His story should be printed in every publication as an example of what not to do to fight racism and attacks on the LGBTQ community, a group that shunned Smollett. They don’t want to be associated with their movement, and saw through the nonsense he presented as truth.

The entire sordid tale should be a cautionary one, written by Smollett himself, unintentionally perhaps, but personally just the same. He tried to act when the lights and cameras were off, and he failed at it, miserably. He played his part badly, and for what? Fame? Notoriety? Sympathy? Too bad all he’ll end up with is infamy. Jussie Smollett’s name will forever be synonymous with hoax hate-crimes now. He will be remembered as one of the worst male actors to ever grace the small screen and as a terrible human being.
