Donald Trump entered a Manhattan courtroom on Tuesday April 4, 2023, and entered a not-guilty plea to 34 charges. It's one stage in a lengthy process that will probably end with the first ex-president of the United States facing charges in court. Trump acted in an unusual manner, and now his actions are receiving an unprecedented response. Trump resigned from office in January 2021 after losing the 2020 election. and since then, four different criminal investigations have been underway while lawyers have gathered evidence. They are attempting to determine whether Trump violated the law and, if so, what should be done about it.

You must have a basic understanding of US criminal investigations in order to comprehend these 4 cases. Investigators gather information in the initial stage. They might speak with potential witnesses, look at security footage, search through bank records, or examine messages and emails. A grand jury, which is made up of a selection of randomly chosen persons, is shown that evidence. No one's guilt or innocence is decided by the grand jury. They simply take in the evidence and determine whether it makes sense. They will file an indictment if 12 of them believe it to be true. The prosecutor can only then bring charges.

The case might proceed directly to sentencing if the accused enters a guilty plea. If they enter a not guilty plea, the case advances to trial, when a jury hears the testimony and must reach a unanimous verdict. It's obvious that this is a simplification, and there are many differences in other states and jurisdictions, but this is the general idea.

So, how far along are the investigations into Trump? The hush money will be discussed first. Trump has been charged by the state of New York with first-degree business record falsification. His repeated and fraudulent falsification of New York company records to hide illegal activity that concealed damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election is detailed by the prosecution in their statement of facts. According to this bank statement from Michael Cohen, who served as Donald Trump's former attorney, he withdrew money in October 2016. The adult film actress was paid that money to keep quiet about an alleged relationship she had with Donald Trump a few years prior. After winning the election a year later, Trump sent Cohen multiple cheques to be repaid. Trump incorrectly listed these as payments for legal services in his accounting records. These are some of the facts that supported Trump's recent indictment and his decision to enter a not-guilty plea. The district attorney, Alvin Bragg, must demonstrate that Trump fabricated these papers not only to conceal the money but also to further or cover up some other crime in order to convict him of a felony. However, I believe that the allegations made against Trump in this specific case are not nearly as serious as those that would warrant prosecuting a former president. The claim that he attempted to rig the election comes to mind.

"The votes are still being counted in Georgia."

"CNN just predicted that Vice President-elect Biden would win Georgia." "I think the numbers we've presented today are accurate," Donald Trump and Brad Raffensperger, Georgia's secretary of state, are on the phone. The head of Georgia's elections. It would have been sufficient to rig the Georgia election if they had created 11,780 Trump votes out of thin air. After hearing the evidence, a special grand jury in Georgia recommended several indictments. However, it is unclear at this time whether District Attorney Fani Willis would pursue the matter further. Not just the Georgia team is attempting to determine whether Trump's actions following the election violated any laws. The investigation team for federal special counsel Jack Smith is focused on related issues. The issue of bogus electors has received a lot of attention. The electors of the state voted for the candidate who received the most votes in their state. If Biden wins the state, then that many electoral votes are awarded to him because Biden's electors won the state. Trump's campaign wins important swing states. Even though Biden won the state, they attempted to put together slates of alternate electors. The gatekeepers wouldn't let them in. As a result, they did it in the basement of Republica's state offices. then delivered it to DC. Similar campaigns were launched by Trump's team in six other states where Biden prevailed. In one instance, a grand jury in DC has been hearing testimony for months, but they have not yet reached a decision. But it seems as though we are nearing the end of this. A fourth case against Trump is also being investigated by the same special prosecutor. Unusual FBI search at the residence, "Trump's estate at Mar-a-Lago..." "...has been searched by FBI agents." Numerous documents with the designations "classified," "confidential information ," and "top secret" were discovered, as evidenced by this inventory list from the raid. A Washington Post article from the previous year claimed that part of material concerned nuclear documents.

According to some reports, some of these had to do with intelligence that would have revealed specific US sources or informants. Additionally, the intelligence community did believe this to be highly important information that had no place at Mar-a-Lago. All of this information is currently being heard by a grand jury in Washington, DC. Donald Trump didn't only say outlandish things while serving as president. He behaved in ways that no president before him had. It's time to determine whether any of that unusual behavior was also unlawful now that he's out of office. If so, what should you do about it?
