Shayna Hubers was a jealous girlfriend who was obsessed with her then-boyfriend, Ryan Carter Poston. This obsession turned deadly and led to the brutal murder of Ryan Carter Poston.

The Beginning and the End

Ryan Carter Poston was born in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky in December 1982. He went to high school at Blessed Sacrament School (Fort Mitchell), the International School of Manila (Philippines), and the International School of Geneva (Switzerland). Then he studied history, geography, and political science at Indiana University, where he got three majors. After that, he went to Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights for law school.

He started working as a lawyer in Cincinnati, Ohio after he finished his law degree.

Shayna Michelle Hubers was born on April 8, 1991, in Lexington, Kentucky. Before she met Poston, she was obsessed with her academics and was considered a genius by her peers.

Poston was 28 and Hubers was 20 when they met each other on Facebook in March 2011. He had sent her a friend request on the social media platform after she posted a picture of herself in a bikini. Huber accepted the request and the duo started going out not long after that. Hubers studied psychology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, about 80 miles away from Highland Heights(where Poston was living), when they started dating. She later finished with honors and wanted to get a master’s degree in school counseling.

Just before Poston and Hubers started dating, Poston had recently broken up with another girl, Lauren Worley. He enjoyed Huber's companion but didn't want the relationship to continue. He tried effortlessly to break up with Hubers, and slowly, the relationship turned toxic with constant fights and bickering.

The relationship turned deadly on October 12, 2012. Poston had planned a date with the then Miss Ohio, Audrey Bolte. Hubers came to the house just before he left, they started arguing before she pulled out a Sig Sauer. 380 pistol and shot him six times.

She quickly called 9-1-1 and told the operator that she had shot dead her boyfriend in his condo in Highland Heights. However, she claimed it was in self-defense.

When the police arrived, they read her Miranda Rights, telling her she had the right to remain silent. Huber ignored the officers and kept speaking. She told the officers that Poston was a very vain person who had abused her in the relationship. She made jest of the situation, she joked how she "gave him the nose job he always wanted" by shooting him in the face.

She said other things that may be considered inappropriate considering the situation, “Who will marry me if they find out I killed a boyfriend for self-defense?” They took her in for questioning, but when she was left alone, she started pacing the floor and dancing. She even sang "Amazing Grace," and praised herself for carrying out the act. "I did it. Yes, I did it. I can't believe I did that" and, "I'm so good at acting." she exclaimed.

Following the interrogation, Hubers was arrested and held on a $5 million bond.

Trial and Conviction

Hubers was charged with killing Poston on December 20, 2012. She entered a plea of not guilty on January 16, 2013. Her murder trial started on April 13, 2015, two-and-a-half years after the murder.

Due to the size of her bond, Hubers stayed in the Campbell County jail from the time they arrested her because she could not pay for her release.

While Hubers maintained her innocence, claiming she had acted in self-defense, the prosecutors argued that she was over-jealous and didn't want her to have another girl aside from her, they stated the reason for the argument was simple Poston wanted to end the relationship.

On April 23, 2015, Hubers was found guilty of the crime she had committed. She was ultimately sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 17 years. Today, she is at the Kentucky Correctional Institute for Women in Pewee Valley, Kentucky.
