I Can’t Breathe

You think when someone says that they would let up on you so you can. But in a society like this where systematic racism exists, I guess not.

I Can’t Breathe...were the last words of George Floyd.

When does the INJUSTICES of our society stop?!

When will people of color feel safe in their own homes, towns, countries?!

It was just yesterday my brother drove by a white woman jogging in our neighborhood and I remembered him saying; “you don’t see too many black people jogging around here.” And we have a lot of black people in our neighborhood and I had to tell him that if we went out and probably started jogging that we would probably get shot, so best that we don’t go out and do that.

And our neighborhood is pretty much a good neighborhood but I still said those words because I didn’t really know if our neighborhood was safe enough to be black.

And that is the sad truth. I hope one day that we don’t have to teach our children the “proper” way to speak to the police when we get pulled over. “Always, have your hands on the steering wheel where the police can see them. Always have a smile on your face when they pull you over so they don’t think you’re hostile. And ALWAYS ask to reach for something before just doing it.”

The rules you teach your children whose a person of color can save their lives down the line. But I hope one day that we don’t have to and get to be blissfully ignorant like some folks who don’t HAVE TO teach their children that.

So when we march and say black lives matter ✊🏿 ✊🏾 ✊🏽 it’s because systematic racism proves once again over & over that they don’t. It’s not a racist thing to say that Black Lives Matter because we just want y’all to know that killing us because of our skin color is just plain wrong.

It’s like if one house is burning down and the firemen come out to put water on it but another person is like “but what about my house?” And the fireman looks at their house and has to tell them “sir, your house Isn’t burning down right now. But this one is & I still have time to save it.”

Also, Support Black Own Businesses & help at least one person or company & uplift our people!

If it’s to even put a smile 😊 on someone’s face whose POC could even break the veil between hate & bring our communities together.

You can even tip me on here if you’d like. I would really appreciate it. Even one person who supports me, keeps me out there moving the movement along! & keep writing articles like this to help our people achieve equality!

When we help one marginalized group of people we can help others! The movement is not done. We have a long way to go because Trans Lives, people of different sexual orientations, & indigenous people MATTER & we have to fight for them as well to get this world rid of hate.

WE THE PEOPLE have to come together & help each other! Don’t sit back when you see injustices help someone who is less fortunate than you. If you have privilege use that to your advantage & help those in need.

It doesn’t take money to be nice, kind, & supportive it only takes your effort to make a change & make this world better for people who've been beaten & held down by it.
